Made A Trip to Huntington Yesterday . We Met Up at 7:00 AM & Hand Launched The Green Gobblin/Dinker & We started Trolling for the Tigers. Fuzz & I Were Using Lead core while CF used the downrigger, watched the fishfiner & called out the depth that the fish were holding so Fuzz & I could adjust accordingly . Fuzz & I did fairly well on flatfish, while CF found his custom made equipment Very Productive. By 8:30-9:00 we stopped & started jigging using as the Guys would call them "minimags" in a location that will remain secret!,because I had to take a blood oath on this!!.We gave up jigging after using 5 dozen minimags & a few Crawlers & went back to trolling once the wind picked up & made it hard to hover over the small tight location. many hookups & long line releases, not to mention mid air releases! (about a dozen)Man those fish are sure scappers! all in all the fish caught was around forty. 9 were kept for the frying pan. And to make My Day even better was the fact that the guys hooked on to a few bigguns But,I was the one that Boated the 22" big fish of the Day[Smile]. From what we observed everyone in boats did very well, but the bank fisherman were having a very slow day of it. Thanks Guys for a great day Of fishing!

Nice tiger! I havn't fished Hunnington before but I can't remember anyone posting about a 22" tiger trout out of there. Is a 22 incher far and few between?

wow what a trip that was!! we had good wether for the most part great fishing all day.. trolling was good but jigging was even better tell we ran out of minnows..but even the worm's put some hooks in them yesterday.. i think i could have put some more in the boat if i had grabed my pole with 8 lbs on it insted of the one with 4 lbs test.. sure made it fun tho..lol

thanks for comeing down and takeing me along i had a great time fish with you all again..

MGB the last 3 times i have been up to huntington i have cought or seen someone catch one around the 22" fish that mememe cought the other day.. in fact i had one that was colse to her fish that took me under the boat and came up on the other side and snaped my 4 lbs test that fast.. them fish are some jumpers!! man they put on a good show..

Water temp was 55 and I'd guess that we'd all made that number of "a swing and a miss" by days end. But those hookups where hoot and there were plenty of them. And altho' dandy to watch, there were also plenty of those pesty long line air born releases that seem to plague some more than others, right ol' buddy? (The one Ron refers to the tiggie must have come 6 feet out of the water spinning like an arrow side to side and end to end at the same time while Rons line was being stretched under the boat. What a cool sight it was. It was a nice fish too)!
For Me, no excuses, if over 17 inches long I simply couldnt keep some of em stuck to steel! Maybe I'm losin' my magnetic personality, HA!
But hey it good to share the water with Mememe and Ron and it was a pretty fair day weather wise. The bite was pretty strong most of the time and we all brought plenty to the boat to be released to play another day.. Yep, I'd say that was a pretty fair day on the pond and those tiggies are tasty!
Congrats on big catch honors of the day Mememe. Whats more I think you out did me ol' buddy and me in numbers brought to the net too. Good Fish!

Looks like a nice haul, a 22" tiger is a very nice fish. The state record was 23" (5 lbs 13 oz) and the state C&R record is only 20".

I had a excellent opportunity to study tiger trout swimming around looking at me from within Cabelas' aquarium. It was a way gnarly looking fish with its tiger design on its uniform...[cool][Tongue]

[Smile]Waaay to go girl!! As TubeDude said, we have been trying to get up there for a while, but something always seems to get in the way. Hopefully we will be able to make it before ice-up!

We were up there Saturday also in the 14 foot aluminum boat. We launched at 6:30 ish and got off around Noon. As you say, the conditions were optimal and the fishing was great! We boated 15, with the largest being 3 seperate fish going 17 inches. Most were 14 to 16 inches for us. Lots of long releases here also. We kept a few for the dinner table and let the rest go. Our ticket was jigging with night crawlers. We used 2 anchors to hold tight in our secret spot...(by the way, I know where your secret jigging spot is now!) and were very successful jigging. When the jigging slowed between schools, we found that throwing a lure worked just as well. We didn't catch any trolling, and were using lead line. My pictures turned out fuzzy (no offense...) because I had to use my camera phone as I forgot the digital...

Great fish both of you.... what color jigs were working?

Mememe. Fun day of fishing it was! Well you certainly earned those top honors even thought it probably seems as if Ron and I tried to insure you didnt, LMAO! Yepper's, as always it was great to share the float with ya and you did indeed put the skunk in the dirt in grand fashion! Yes I think those tiggies may have to try to avoid our steel again before its time to dance the Ice Jig on the hard top.

Ron: Thanks for showing a couple Huntington rookies the ropes and I'm sure it wasnt the last time we'll put Huntington on top of our fishing hole list!

Rut.. Yep that was good goodin' and Mememe certainly earned it.. (As hinted to above, just prior to the catchin' of the biggest fish, Mememe had boated her second largest fish of the day. Some how it didnt quite make it into the fish basket as I went to slip its tail in jail. Opps, gone! Then a few minutes later Ron attempted to slip that biggin' (picture) into the basket after its picture was taken but it also missed the hole and found itself back in the drink. But quick with the net Mememe once again captured her trophy and it then found its way sucurely held within the basket. I swear tho', both occassions of missed jailing were strictly accidental!)..

TD.. Thats right ol' buddy! Whats more,, their getting pretty darn good at rubbin' salt in after they've batted us around on the water pretty good! Kidding ladies! As we discussed a few days back, we like to catch but we get joy when others with say sighlty lesser experience fill the basket. TB and you should get up there and take advantage of the bite. For those afloat its strong but it wont be long before chilly steppers, spud bars, augers and Jet Sleds shall be heard there.. We didnt wet a trap at E this past run, can ya believe that?! Yeah I know,, "for shame!".. But, if the fishies god looks favorably upon us we'll get our back sides back up there to collect a few mini's for the old hard top shuffle...

Flycasting.. In our cast we were merely using a jig loaded with a mini. The color of the head didnt seem to make a lot of difference altho Mememe preferred yellow heads and the hooks were slightly over sized. I did pick up a couple on Jig & crawlers but didnt find it nearly as effective as the Jig & mini combo. Every thing taken on the jig rigs were taken close to the bottom with very little movement other than boat drift because I'm not fond of dropping anchor.. I'd much rather use the eletric tiller to hover over an area while pestering the little critters..

N.E.T.O I think it was you guys,, and,, you should have yelled out as you passed us (both times) on the way up there, LOL. Like its owner my old Turdyota dont move to fast when towing. Good ta hear you guys tapped into a bunch also. We didnt leave the water until about 3pm. after losing track of time due to the action. But by then the W was making it a wee bit tough to stay on the mark. As I pointed out above, I dont drop anchor to often if I dont have to so once the W got nasty we trolled our way back to the pickup and released a couple more just for kix.

Folks the fish are spread out and in small schools but they werent hard to locate.. While trolling we marked and pulled most fish from about 30' over deeper water. While jigging we hung out in areas of 27'-30' of water altho' we marked several fish along the bottom in areas as deep as the res. provides. The deepest area I found on the ff was 43'. Whats more, it appears their quickly dumping water from the res. in anticipation of snow fall. Ron pointed out the res is down 6' or 7' from where it was when he was there just a couple weeks ago. As has been mentioned it seemed like a very slow bite for those fishing from shore so if your shore bound I'd suggest you tap into the E lake Cutties if you need faster action. Try hanging a mini, or crawler and egg, about 3 or 4 feet below a float and get ready for fairly steady action. We have found that to be the situation each and every run we made to E this summer.

OK I'm done because my two typing fingers are worn to a frazzle!
But if you make the run up I wish all the best of luck! Those tiggies are scrappers and real hoot to tussel with..

Yes, that was us! We passed you once on I-15, then you must have kept going when we stopped at the Chevron in Fairview, and then we passed you once more going up Fairview Canyon. Once out on the water we recognized the boat that we had passed twice, I just didn't recognize the occupants! Funny as it sounds, my cousin and I were having a little discussion while fishing and we wondered out loud at one point "I wonder where Fuzzy Fisher is fishing today?"...Kind of funny that he was right next to us at the same lake in your boat! Had I known the occupants, I definitely would have gone over and rubbed boat-fenders for a minute and shared fishing secrets! By the way, white 1/16 ounce jigheads with night crawlers one crank off the bottom in 30 feet of water! We also used a couple of split shots about 3 feet above the jighead to keep it down. Fishfinder showed schools of 3 or 4 fish at a time every 5 minutes or so. Most times when we saw the fish, our poles would bounce!

Hey that'll teach ya to think out loud. [Wink]

Yeah we also found most schools contained 3-6 fish. Yep next time you happen upon the old Green Gobblin prowlin' the waters give a hauler and we'll exchange paint! Ram Speed![pirate][Wink]

[cool]It's a long ways from Henry's Lake, I'll tell ya that much.[Tongue] Hunington Reservoir is about 2 1/2-3 hours SouthEast of SLC in the beautiful Manti-Lasalle National Forrest. It's kind of near the town of Fairview which is by Mt. Pleasant wich is kind of by Manti, etc. There's directions to it on the Utah Fishing Holes web page of this site. Go to thetop of this page and click the "UTAH" link, and then scroll down to the Utah Fishing Holes link.
