so i've only seen one officer from the dnr ticketing snaggers during the years if steelhead fished and now salmon fished .
seems to me one officer could hand out hundreds of tickets in one day generating thousands of dollers in fines and confiscated equipment . a handfull of c.o.'s could make a million .
think about how much money the dnr could generate for itself during one weekend alone at the foote or tippy .
why then don;t they do it ?
i asked them this question , i;m waiting for their response.
of course i asked them this last year and i;m still waiting for that questions answer too .

September 4, 2005Fifty of Michigan's conservation officers being sent to Louisiana were assisted by scores of other COs and state police personnel as they prepared for a 14-day assignment. Officers assisted with the loading of boats on flat bed trailers for transport to Louisiana.
Director Rebecca Humphries met with the conservation officers and commended their overwhelming level of commitment and concern as they prepared to depart. More than 100 officers had volunteered for the search and rescue duty.
The officers received vaccines and a briefing on what to expect on the operation. They will be joining conservation officers from Louisiana as well as other states
As of Wednesday, Sept. 7, Michigan’s COs had rescued 30 individuals, including several invalids. [/black][/font]

Game Warden and Dnr officer are two seperate entity,
a game warden is a state police officer and can ticket you for just about any thing any where in the state.
a dnr officer is a park ranger and juridiction is limited to parks and state land where they reside or are lent out to.
so I guess for the most part you are still waiting for your answer....
good to hear we are lending out our resorces to those of misfortune. Grandholm sined a bill to spend 6 mill of our government funds to pay for our police officers and natinal guard officers wages while deployed to the devistated regeon.

Here's an update , good and bad .
The D.N.R. made an appearance at Tippy dam last weekend handing out tickets to the ileagle snaggers and litterers along the river . They were fishing along side regular fishermen undercover day and night, they went into the rivers water in waders to ticket those breaking the fishing laws , they waited in the parking lots to enforse the take limit of fish . I guess it was long overdue and a lot of fishermen were greatfull to see it take place ,finally . Me included .
The bad part , There were several complaints filed by the same guys that wanted to see this action taken , why ?
Because of the Seargent that was in charge of the boat that droped off and picked up officers along the river . He must have not wanted to do this assignment or was not familiar with boating regulations or common scence .
He operated the craft at high speeds at all times comming within just a couple feet of wading anglers . Mind you not just one or two fishermen but dosens of them . I don't know what his deal was but that was just reckless of him . The manistee river is trecherous with the swift current , log jams and underwater hassards that can pin a guy underwater without a way to escape . A boat traviling that fast can dislodge a fishermans footing on the river bottom and send him to the mercy of the river . The craft could have veered off corse and run over a law abiding fisherman , injuring or killing them .
Whatever the officers motive was , he sure gave the D.N.R. a black eye in the public relations department . There was no reason to behave as he did .
Other than the manner in which that officer operated the patroll boat everyone I talked to that fishes legalily on the river had the same thing to say , "It was long overdue and needed" .
I personally would appreciate seeing more patrolls during the spawning runs , I have a great passion for this type of fishing and have had to deal with nonsportsmen like behavior from those who would think that the law dosen't apply to them .
Sure the fish will die anyway and that's the argument or excuse a lot of guys lean on . If you were to think the same way when it comes to deer hunting we would be sharing the woods with guys using tommy guns and R.P.G.s , I don't think we would want that would we ?
My hats off to the D.N.R. for the show of force , it's about time . To the one officer , relax up just a bit , nobody needs to die over this .

a civil suit can be filed aginst the dirver for reckless endangerment in the case he came close to you if and only if you were not ticketed for poaching.
if is a
![Sad Sad](https://bigfishtackle.com/forum/images/smilies/sad.png)
thing to see officers who become over zelloused in thier jobs and inflict undue force upon any one... that is a crime in itself.
as for the salmon dieing that is not nessasarily true in case of the atlantic salmon, this species actualy spawns 3-5 years before dieing. When doing the research on this species last year I was truly amazed to find this fact. I posted my research findings of this species on the boards here last year.
thanks for the update, I was run off the river a couple times last year by snaggers, it was to difficult to properly fish when you have those ball jacks riffeling though the current snagging everything including my lines. when they came out I just went back up to my truck and took a nap for a couple hours and waited for them to leave. It wasnt worth my time to fight with them and I had heard the stories about the game wardens doing as you mentioned above and thought it would only be a matter of time and they would be hauled off the river...
