I took the lid from one of my Rubbermaid storage containers and laid it across the front of my Fat Cat. Wow! What an improvement. I just had this friction fitted between the two pontoons and it worked really well. Do you rig it more permanently with mini bungees or what? It certainly is efficient for tackle tinkering. You could even prepare a wine and cheese lunch for you and your tubing partner. I can see how handy this setup is for those of you who use cut bait in the salt.

[cool][#0000ff]I don't know whether you "invented" that all by yourself, or whether you had a chance to look at some of my past posts on using "rigid aprons", but we have been using the "sushi boards" for about two years. Those aprons that come with the Outcast tubes are plain wimpy.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I do put open hook fasteners on stretch cord for the front of the apron, to keep in in place. I have also cut out a bit at the back to help it fit over my large frame. As you can see in the attached picture, I also added a glue down ruler and have punched drain holes in the corners. That helps with washing and cleanup.[/#0000ff]

Tube Dude,
No I can't lay claim to that invention. I was inspired by the photos of your wife cruising around in her Fat Cat with the plastic lid over her apron. Just one of the many things I've learned from this site. I'm beginning the serious hunt for a fish finder at the moment. I take it that I don't need to pay extra for a portable unit as I believe any of the units can be hooked up to a sealed lead acid battery. Is that a correct assumption?
God Bless

Did ya have the Rainbow for dinner?

[cool][#0000ff]Keeeeeerect. Portable units are designed for two main markets. One...for boaters who sometimes rent a boat, or need a unit to change back and forth between two craft, etc. The other group that uses the portables are ice fishermen. We see a lot of them in Utah, but there are also a lot of guys that get a (less costly) regular setup and then rig up their own "portable" system.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]But, almost any "standard" sonar system can be rigged for tubing. The two main considerations are 1. Mounting the display and 2. Mounting the transducer. There are quite a few past threads and pics that should help, but feel free to ask any questions you have as you go along. Like most things, it is easy once you have done it a time or two, but a complete mystery when you are doing it for the first time.[/#0000ff]
