[cool]Hey, just wanted to say hi to all of the tubers here as I don't post on this board very often, but that's about to change! Also, we (CBR, BassAckword, a friend of mine, and maybe fishhound) are going to Lincoln Beach located at beautiful Utah Lake to chase some walleye, channel cats, and white bass (weather permitting). Right now according to accuviewweather.com it's supposed to have NE winds of 14 mph. I might have to just fish with my waders from close to shore, but I'll make that decision at the lake.
Anyone from this board that wants to come along is more than welcome. I'll be launching just past 3rd springs (I think that spot is called "the L" but not sure) at about 5:30.
Good luck to all tubers/tooners/yackers etc. this weekend!

[cool]That's 5:30 a.m. Walleye or bust!!!

Aahroooooo ..... rrrrr, ruff,ruff ... sniff,sniff,sniff ...
Howdy Out4Trout !
Welcome to this here side of the planet - I think you'll like it over here - these here folks is good-uns too !(mostly cuz - TD aint run me off yet like some ole egg-suckin hound what got into the chicken coop - if'n ya know what I'm a meanin') LOL - I'm almost kine-a like a re-glr in these here parts.
Let's keep our eyes on the weather - so we can maybe plan on looking for them other kind-a "eyes". Also, I seen on that n'other place that you mentioned Mantua - that's a possibility - but seldom have I heard of anyone hooking into any decent "eyes" up yonder. Not that it matters much to me - fishin is fishin - they all taste good ! I 'm not afraid of wade'in none neither so's that's still a possibility too.
Any'ol'ways - good ta have ya over here in these parts too ! But fair warning here - we's all into the dunken donuts - so jess be aware that ya could be keepin comp-ny wit a bunch'a'floatin fools.

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Dawg, you know you is always welcome in these here parts, as long as ya don't keep scratchin' and lickin'...if ya know what I mean.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I do gots a favor to ask. How about downsizing the pic in your "avatar". Just in case your photo editing software is in the "photoshop", I have attached a suitable size version fer ya.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Man...there goes the neighborhood. Glad to have ya, Geoff.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I will keep a weather eye on the forecast, but it is not lookin' too good for us on Saturday. After spending good gas money last week only to get wind-blowed, I ain't real anxious fer an encore.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Our son's upcoming wedding is also a factor. Lots to get done and not much time left to do it. Of course, TubeBabe is more involved in the foo-foo stuff, but I get caught up in the whirlwind.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If I might make a suggestion, I think you would do better, with more protection from the wind, by fishing inside the north marina at Willard Bay. The wipers have already moved inside and weather always pushes walleyes and crappies inside too. No matter which direction the wind blows from, you can find a bank that it protected. I have had some great catches inside that marina in the past, when the white caps were blowing by the entrance.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You are correct in figuring that the north wind will push some fish to the rocks off Lincoln Beach. However, it is really tough to fish it well if the wind and waves are too bad. You keep making 50 yard casts into the wind...25 yards out and then 25 yards back as the wind returns your cast.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The other bad thing about fishing walleyes in heavy wind is the lack of "touch". Fishing jigs on light heads requires that you balance your speed of retrieve, the angle of your rod, the size of your rod and line and everything, to allow you to keep in constant touch with what is going on at the end of your line. When the wind pushes your line all over, you have no feel at all for any potential bites. You may only get a couple of "inquiries" in a morning of fishing. If you don't feel them and don't set the hook at the right time, you might as well just be sitting in your car.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]During the post spawn period, from April through late June, the walleyes are actively feeding and more aggressive. They strike harder and are easier for the average angler to catch. However, this time of year, the hits are often more subtle and harder to detect. You really have to be in complete tune with what is going on, and keep your wrist cocked for a quick hookset.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Fishing in the wind CAN be productive, and I have had some great days when the wind was "active". However, unless you have had a lot of experience at it, and are totally in tune with the differences in the feel of things, you are not likely to do as well.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Still, the best time to go fishing is whenever you can get away. And, if you got an itch to go fishing, then scratch it. You will feel better, even if you did not catch a lot of fish. At least you were "out there amongst 'em".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck and good to have you on the dark side.[/#0000ff]

Hey Thanx TD,
Ah that fits so much better now - I was trying to resize it, but it just wouldn't change. So, I was reparagraphing every thing to fit the small text area I was left with. Kind of dumb, I know, but I think by now you already know me enough to know that. Anyway thanx again for the assist !

That is a cool avatar, where was the picture taken?

[cool]Thanks for the warm welcome, TD. Congratulations on your son getting married. There goes his freedom...LOL. Hope all goes well with it.
I appreciate the advice and tips. I'm going to have to hit Willard's north marina soon. I've heard of some big fish being taken from there. Petty's mom-in-law or mother (can't remember which) caught a 27 inch 'eye in there last summer. I just don't have the 9 bucks for entry right now (but i do have a full tank of gas), and I will be at Edwards Stadium in Provo for the football game at 1:00 anyway, so I'm going to have to test my jig chucking skills in the wind at Lincoln. I'm also going to have a bait rig out to hopefully at least get a kittie or two. Right now the accuweather forcrash is for 13 mph winds out of the NNE. CBR said he heard a 8mph forcast this morning, so we're gonna give it a go.
Chuck (utwalleye) went out last night and caught a bunch of whities and a 17 inch eye and another one too. Hope we get into something, but if not, it'll be better than sitting on my butt at home.
[signature]
Pat it is nice to hear your voice again (words) I think I will become a more active part of the tube board from now on. I hope we can get togather and fish soon. Oh i am going to brave the Big W saturday too. I plan on bringing one of my big boat anchors and see if that will help keep me in one spot we will see.
[signature]
[#505000]I think with recent changes I will be posting a lot more of my mindless rantings over here on the floater's board too. I wish I could make the Utah Lake trip this saturday but I made prior engagements to chase some slime rockets at Scofield. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Since I started making my own tackle I can't wait to test out my "white bass punisher" lures at Utah Lake. They did good by me last trip until the wind came up.[/#505000]
[#505000]Also if the gas prices keep going up I may have to dig and stock a pond in my backyard to afford fishing!! [crazy][/#505000]
[signature]
[cool]I hear ya about gas prices, Gary! Good luck at Scofield. Hope you do well. That's my first place I ice-fish around Turkey day or so till about mid Dec. when Strawberry freezes in the bays. I can't wait to ice fish there. I usually fish just off the point where the shacks are (just past the dam).
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Thanks, Mike. I appreciate the kind words and support from all you guys. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I plan to have a lot of focus on Utah fishing here, and I will be posting all of my trips. Since a lot of the "regulars" are tubers and tooners, it helps the tubing board to get more reports from you other floaters too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As many on the Utah board have noticed, many of my previous posts have "disappeared". I have been able to detach and move most of my long winded diatribes and some of the tubing-oriented threads that should have been over here anyway. Once I get stabilized and organized, we will have a easily accessible archive of topics on a wide variety of issues...not just tubing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just for the record, there was no POWER PLAY or clash of authority. My leaving the Utah board was not a sympathy shot or anything punitive. Just a difference of opinion that made me realize that with only limited time and mental resources, that I should focus on one board...this one. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have some big plans and goals for the next few months...both for the board and my personal programs. I need to finish the final rewrite on the tubing book and get it published. Then, I will do a complete update and rewrite on the book I wrote in the early eighties..."Fetchin' and Fixin' the Fishes of Utah". Man...there's been a lot of changes in Utah fishing since then. Got a lot of new recipes too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Thanks again guys. Your assurances are reassuring.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Yea! About the book! Please don't forget to post about it and I will be watching for it! Put my name on your waiting list.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]When it is finished I promise I won't be bashful about announcing it. Although I am not writing it with any expectations of having a best seller, I would at least like to recover some of my expenses...by selling a few.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Bashfull is not you ! I want an autographed one, so I can sell it for beaucoup bucks and retire when you're famous and go on tour in New York and California and hit the talk show circuit. You'll be on the cover of the Rolling Stone...I can see it now ... Rolling Stone ... gonna buy five copies for my mother ... Stone ...
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Nah...I'll probably always be "The Infamous One". Onliest reason I would go on tour is for some fishin'. None of that public stuff for me. Cain't stand the groupies. Keep 'em away by spraying down with DEET and anointing with some good catfish juice. That keeps all but the kinkiest ones away. TubeBabe is still able to tolerate me though, as long as I stay downwind.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Hey wiperhunter2,
That's in Idaho - I used to live there. It was one of my old local fishing holes.
[signature]
I am going to have to pass on the eyes and kitty chasing this weekend.
I hope you all rip some lips!
[signature]
Sumpin tells me the Float tubing board is about to get a lot more active than it used to!!
I'll be wanting a copy of the finished product for sure! Let us know once it's ready so we can cut out the sports or bookstore (middleman) and get it direct from you!
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]It might sound like a lot of "stuff", but my goal in getting the book published is not just to make a buck. I feel a need to get it out of my head and on paper (or CD) for other fellow "floataholics" to have access to.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]With that in mind, I have given up on the idea of getting sponsors or having publishers involved. I will be self publishing and handling all of the distribution myself. That should make it possible to cut out some of the "fat" in a price point, so that those who want it can afford it. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have been in advertising, printing and publishing going back to the early days, when it was typesetting, PMTs, color separations and all that stuff. With today's technology it is much easier for someone to whup out a book on their own, and to work a good deal with a printer.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It's hard to believe the prices on even the simplest books these days. Some of the smallest and least comprehensive books on specific subjects are priced at ten times what they were not so many years ago. Kinda like oil prices. No good reason for it but we still gotta pay the money.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Now see...you got me started again.[/#0000ff]
