Kentofnsl picked me up at about 6 am and we headed out to Strawberry. We were greeted by a wonderfull morning of clear skies and with just a bit of a chill in the air. Just after launching Kent's boat, we passed by CBR who said howdy as he fished in his toon - we never saw or heard him again the rest of the day, as we were on the other side of the lake and most likely out of radio range.

We made our way out to a spot that Kent likes and set anchor and started to jig. The fishing began slow and picked up to sporodic catching of good sized fish for an hour or so then dropped off in that place, so we took off and trolled our way to another part of the resevoir for some more jigging. While trolling, we had a few hits and Kent was able to bring a couple in to the boat - interestingly, those were the smallest fish of the day taken on the largest offerings we used.

At our next stop, the wind had picked up substantialy and clouds started rolling in. We set both anchors and began jigging. Again, the fishing started slowly, but, this time, when it picked up, it was much faster and with consistantly larger fish - I think the largest fish we boated was Kent's 21 3/4 incher, however, we caught several in the 21 to 21 1/2 inch range - some were quite fat. For some time, it was almost constant catching, but, we never had a real double hook-up at any point.

When the wind got strong enough to drag us some 200 feet from our original anchorage, we called it a day.

I am not sure how many fish we boated overall, but we both got well over a dozen each with some really nice ones in the mix. Almost all of our fish came from jigging and all were released to grow some more. Sorry, we were having too much fun and too busy fishing to remember to take any photos this time.

It was a day of great companionship, conversation, fishing and catching on Strawberry !

P.S. Almost forgot to mention - we stopped at the visitors center on the way home and there are still some beautifull red fish in the stream - I did get a photo of them.

I left at noon but was able to land 12 cutts and 1 nice 16 inch rainbow. All were released and I got some killer photos of the fish in the water. Verticle jigging with white/pepper flake were the ticket.

Great outing and Fishhound, in his modesty, greatly under counted the number of fish that we caught. Thanks to both Mikes (MGB & Fishcrazy) we were able to get into the fish. We caught them on tube jigs, curly tails, and I caught several on Maniac's stick baits (using lever hooks) drop shotting. Color didn't seem to matter too much today. Tipped hooks with either minnow or crawlers. I would often tip one hook with a small chunk of minnow and tip the other hook with a piece of crawler (using TD's double hookers).

Nice pics, CBR. A couple of friends from work and I will be headed up tomorrow, hope the wind isn't too bad.

[cool]Nice pics, Craig. Glad you got into some nice slime rockets! That top and bottom pic are the coolest. It looks like I won't be able to make it up to the 'berry till Jakes Bay freezes. Can't afford the gas right now. However, since I'll be in Provo Saturday night anyway (to watch my losers), I'll be fishing Lincoln Beach in the early a.m. hoping to nail an 'eye or two ("W" permitting, that is.) Good luck with wherever you are heading.

Haev fun, I am gonna make another trip up to the berry sometime before ice over so I will let you know and you can car pool with me.

The water is ccccooooold. 50 degrees when I got on and only warmed a couple degrees by when I got off.

I am off to powell on friday and will return sunday, but have a blast at LB. Get a walleye or two. Smile

We can tell a similar tale: We arrived at 8:00 to clear skies and calm. But until the wind started to get up, we had a difficult time finding cooperative fish. Most we saw were bottom-huggers until then.
However, as the weather deteriorated, the fishing improved. And during one 90 minute window, my 2 sons-in-law really pounded the cutts. No 'bows this time, about a dozen trout in the 14 - 16" range, and all the others were 19 - 20+"! But it shut off on us about 12:30, and we got our little sixteen-foot Lund outta there!
And while black has been our go-to color for everything we've been throwing, it was all white today!
Water temp ranged from 49 to 51 degrees, and we have hopes of another trip or two before ice up.

[cool]Right on. Travel safe down there, and good luck too.

I notice everyone saying they'll only get another trip or two in at the Berry before ice on. Gas prices suck, so that is something to consider, but I will tell you this, the fishing from now until the ice is the best of the year. I've fished there 20-25 times this year so far, and will probably go 20 times between now and ice on - it's really that good. The fish move shallow and it's a blast casting to 3 feet of water to the big boys just aching to slam about anything minnow looking you throw in. Plus, once we hit late-October, the fishing only picks up as the day goes along, no slow spots after the morning, the cold water (38-45 degree) really puts the bite into them. Not preaching, just saying don't write off the Berry yet!
