I just thought I'd post a couple of pictures from when I was in Nicaragua. I lived there for 2 years as a missionary, and once or twice actually got to get out fishing:

Very interesting, did you catch anything? If you did what kind of fish were they? WH2

Out of the tipitapa river I caught some tiny 8 inch long very skinny catfish that looked like Channel cats, but I'm not sure if it was some other species or not.

I also caught "Guapote" on another trip to that river, which look similar to yellow perch or bass. They also were quite small - only 6 inches or so, and the closest thing to it would be a rock bass - which maybe is what it was but in Spanish they called it guapote (pronounced GWAH-PO-TAY).

In Corinto in the ocean I caught several fish off the jetty. One puffer fish that puffed up big and round with spines once I took it from the water (the local kids called it a toad fish), and several other small fish that I have no idea what they were. From a sandy beach area I also caught some tiny silver fish that sort of looked like baby white bass, but a little different. The locals called them "diablitos" or "little devils".

I also caught a 3 foot long alligator from a lagoon in the central part of the country off of a live frog. Good thing that the line broke before I got him all the way in cause who knows what I'd do with him or what he would do with me! :-D

I'd love to go back down there now with more knowledge, time, gear, and a digital camera. While I was there most the time I had to fish with hand line - a small spool of 6 lb. test mono and a few baithooks. It was lots of fun though.
