VICTORIA, MN—Minnesota angler Mark Raveling was casting a buzzbait on Auburn Lake in Carver County early last week when he hooked Minnesota's new state-record largemouth bass. Raveling's 8-pound, 15-ounce fish tops the previous state record largemouth-an 8-pound, 12.75-ounce bass caught in 1994 on Tetonka Lake.

Although Raveling initially told the Minneapolis/St. Paul Star Tribune newspaper that he intended to keep the fish alive and was considering donating the fish to the soon-to-be-opened Cabela's store in Rogers, Minnesota, the fish died in captivity.
