HARRISBURG, PA—The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has added the rusty crayfish to the list of species banned for possession, sale, barter or transportation in the state.
The crayfish aren't native to Pennsylvania and were first found there in 1976. Recent surveys have documented additional rusty crayfish populations in south-central parts of the state.
The rusty crayfish now joins a list of other exotic species banned in Pennsylvania. Other banned species include zebra mussels, bighead carp, silver carp, snakeheads, black carp, quagga mussels, round gobies, tubenose gobies and European rudd.
