Day break on my "fishing" day-off.

Upon arrival at a "no-name" water, I found a lot of surface activity and set up my 3 weight fly rod with a light colored dry fly - size 18 - I made the body from the shedded fur of one of my hounds and the wings from a "sage hen" feather I found in the Deep Creeks. After about a dozen small trout, I took a photo of this one:

The surface activity "dried up" after the sun was on the water for about an half an hour, so, I put on a size 16 "Hound hair nymph" the abdomen - made of shedded hound fur, the thorax - peacock hurl. Fished the same spot essentially and pulled out a couple better sized and more colorful bows. Here's one of them:

While the hounds and I were having brunch around 11 am, I set up a more leisure rig and soaked a crawler about a foot off the bottom on a circle hook under a float. This nice trout was one of 4 that was the result of that effort.

After using up the half dozen crawlers I had taken along, I went back to a more active method of fishing. This time I used hardware. Having no success for about 15 minutes, I put away the spinners and tied on a sinking crankbait and stared to pound the bottom. Using the countdown technique, I think the next couple of good fish came from around 18 to 20 feet in depth. Here's one from the bottom:

As the water and air temp came up a little, the fish did as well. I changed to a suspending hardbait with a split shot to accommodate their mood and was rewarded with 3 nice ones in the middle of the water column at around 8 to 10 foot deep. This in one of those:

Somewhere between 2 and 3 P.M. I noticed there were a couple of cruisers a ways off that were near the surface in some shallower water in the shaded areas, so, I put on a rainbow patterned floating Rapala and casted over to them. I had a couple of followers, but no takers until I switched sizes. This is the only one of those I saw that I caught.

After a great day of fishing for me and a nice day of boring bankside napping for the hounds, we took a short cut back to camp anticipating some very tasty fillets.

Chuck, nice report and beautiful pictures. What did you do the other five days of your trip?
[signature]
Thanx, point well made. I have adjusted the thread and removed the non-relevant information so as to remain on topic.

Chuck, I wasn't trying to make a point -- I enjoyed your report as it was originally written, I was just hoping you had other installments to share with us on your fishing outings on the other days (because your heading indicated it was a six-day outing. Please feel free to post details about the rest of your trip on the Off Topic forum -- I am sure that I would enjoy reading about your cougar hunting and other experiences.

I know a secret. Your '"no name" water has a name in my memories. But I've taken a blood oath and they will have to beat it out of me.
