As ice hopefully quickly approaches I've found myself breaking out the winter gear and couldn't help notice most of my jigs glow in the dark. All of my favorites do and I started thinking. If they work so well under the ice would glow baits work well in the summer months on the same waters? More and more companies offer jigs and paints that glow but I haven't tried them and wondered what other people thought and or do with glowing tackle.

That's a good thought. Personally I think they would work the same regardless of conditions. Heck most of the time I'm ice fishing with non glow stuff, and I personally haven't seen a difference between the two. I've caught lots of fish off of both kinds.

I have used glow year round for years for all species. Especially walleye at night.

I use glow jigs when I'm jigging deep or the water is dark or at night. I don't know how much it helps, but I rationalize it this way - anything that makes the offering stand out a little more helps the fish find it easier. I almost always try to use them for walleyes.
I just started to paint my own jig heads and got some of the regular glow and yellow and green chartruese glow paints, so I don't have a good feel for how my experimentation is going quite yet.

one of my favorite and best lures that I use year round is a glow chartreuse or pink head with perch eyes (yellow iris black pupil). I have caught many a species on it day and night,

Glow works good, especially through the ice!
I have five bags of glow in the dark Reapers, if some of you guys want to test them, and report your results on this site.
I would like to have them tested ice fishing, and or for Walleye!

I have a question about size as well as glow for ice fishing. For ice fishing I have usually kept the jig size relatively small but keep hearing of people catching fish on bigger stuff. I saw some three inch tube jigs the other day. They had white and white glow in the dark. I am curious as to what other people think about using three inch tubes through the ice and which would be better, plain white or white glow.

Plain white or glow white I don't know that's why I asked the question but as to size sometimes it does matter I think. Have only ice fished Strawberry once and the day I did there were only 3 of us on the lake anywhere. A gentleman came buy and invited me to move over and fish where he usually caught fish and so having no luck I did. We were using the same color jigs with the same worms but my jig was a small ice jig and he was using some large 2.5 inch tube jigs. After a hour of not catching fish while he pulled in fish after fish I ate my pride and accepted his offer to use one of his jigs since he was using my worms. Matched him fish for fish the rest of the day. The third gentleman came over later in the day after watching us catch fish after fish. Was using smaller jigs like I had started with and caught almost nothing as we continued to catch fish. I don't know about other lakes but I will definitely have large tube jigs when I hit Strawberry this winter.

I think size depends on the day. I've had success with all sizes of jigs thru the ice. If the fishing is not fast I'm quick to change sizes and colors.
