I spent last week deerhunting on diamond mtn. and kicked myself all week long for not throwing in the rods. Don't forget that the green river is just a few minutes away also. You can drop down Jackson draw (straight north of Matt Warner) to little hole, or go down crouse canyon to browns park. Speaking of elk. I don't know what tag you have. I'm assuming muzzle loader. If you don't have access to any private land, take the road north between crouse and calder resevoir. Go down the draw as far as the road will go and the last draw on the left (west) side had a fire burn through it. I saw several large bulls and one really big boy maybe 340 - 350 right at the top where the
dle breaks over to the warren draw still bugling aggressively. There is a trail all the way over to the warren but you need a horse or a 4 wheeler to get over it. On foot it would be less that a mile to the top of the draw. Good luck the class of elk I saw last week was certainly better than the class of deer up there.

Cow, Riffle.
We have permission to hunt on Sidoway's property and have access to Searls place near the turn off. I think we are going to camp at crouse instead of MW and head to MW durring mid day unless crouse is hot.
Thanks for the detail fairway!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. My father inlaw was up there yesterday and saw a five point buck. I guess they know that the deer hunt is over now :-)

You should have no problem finding a cow, good luck anyway. I would steer you away from fishing crouse and calder though. Crouse was drawn below the concervation pool a few years ago I know crouse winter killed, they may have restocked it by now, but everything will be small planters. The last year I was in Vernal they doubled the limit at Calder because they knew they were going to go below the concervation pool and it would probably winter kill. I don't know if it actually did kill or not, but when I went by the other day there were some fish rising in the glassy water near the inlet, but I would expect MW to still be your best bet. All three resevoirs are higher right now then I've seen them even in the spring for a while, but there is still no water in Pot creek flowing between them. If you do have problems finding a cow I saw herds of elk 20-30 in almost every draw down the road between the lakes. Usually at the tops of them heading into the trees right at dawn. good luck, I don't think you will have any trouble killing a cow though.

I know this is supposed to be about the fishing but here is a buck my wifes cousin tagged out in the bookclifs last weekend.

I know we are still off of the fishing subject, but that deer looks a lot like the deer I killed on Diamond Mtn. this year.
