I love canoeing too. I always look in the canoe board. Once I asked if anyone did float tubing in the Boundary Water Canoe Area or BWCA. Only one answered and he was talking about sitting on top and float down the river. (Wrong guy about it) Months later I got an email from one who is on that board too saw my note and said he does float tubing out west. Backpacks out the to those remote lakes. Sent me a little story and pictures of the tubing, backpacking and camping. I told him come on over this site, hope he would.

[#0000ff]Thanks for being a BFT ambasor. Some folks like us. Others don't seem to be too excited about playing on a computer, even if it involves a favorite sport. Still others are reluctant to get involved with a website, with personal interactions.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We are here for those who appreciate us, but we can't hit anyone over the head to come aboard.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]When you talk about "tubing", it can mean different things to different people. Some "tube" down the river on plain old truck tire inner tubes. Others "tube" down snow covered hillsides on those same tubes. Us fishing "tubers" hardly use the inner tube models at all any more, and most of us use craft that do not even resemble a tube. Myself, I'm a "V-boater"...but that doesn't have the same ring to it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Oh yeah, when I was a kid in Idaho, I used to pick potatoes during the fall "harvest break". So, I have been involved with "tubers" since a very early age. Never did get too interested in canoes though.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Never met a 'tater I didn't like. But, if you are a spud fan, I got an original recipe for ya. We call 'em Mexi-taters.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Shred up some taters like you were going to make hash browns ('cause ya are). Spread them out about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep on a buttered grill or pan. Let them slow cook until they are nice and brown (crispy) on the first side. Then turn them (adding some more butter to the grill or pan) and let them slow cook until brown and crispy on the second side.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Two ways to serve 'em. 1. Sprinkle on some cheddar cheese and green chiles (jalapenos optional) and microwave to melt the cheese down into the hash browns. You can also use jack cheese, according to taste. You can also slop on a good amount of salsa.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]2. Make huevos rancheros out of them. Once cooked, flop on a couple of fried eggs, cover with enchilada sauce, sprinkle well with grated cheese and WHAMO. Add some refried beans on the side and serve with sour cream and/or guacamole. Arriba.[/#0000ff]

[#505000]Ok ok here you go.... you gotta try this one.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]You can do it stove top or dutch oven. Both styles are great. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Get a large onion and chop it up fine. Slice up 5-6 large spuds into "silver dollars" mix the onions and spuds together with a healthy sprinkling of garlic powder, some salt, and black pepper.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Get 1lb of thick sliced double smoked bakon. Cut it into 1 inch pieces and fry it up but only until it just starts to brown. drain the grease (or don't depending on whether you want flavor or a longer life) and put the bacon pieces in a dutch oven. Add the spud/onions and cook covered stirring occassionally until done. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]When it's cooked through add 1lb shredded EXTRA SHARP cheddar cheese and mix it in good. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Not the healthiest way to brew up spuds but man it tastes good!!![/#505000]
[#505000]I'm going to try the mexi-tater's tonight for dinner. The wife is at work and I have the kitchen all to myself!!!! Darn those picky eaters!!!![/#505000]
