Thank you for contacting me regarding AB 7 (Cogdill). After extensive consideration and thorough deliberation from opponents and proponents of this issue, I have decided to sign this bill.

AB 7 will require the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) to dedicate one-third of revenue generated by sport fishing license sales to the operation of the State's trout hatchery and inland fisheries programs to achieve increased hatchery and native fish production. Next year, California's lakes will be stocked with more fish and rivers populated with wild trout will receive the management they require. In the past, a small percentage of the DFG budget has gone to trout hatcheries even though more than half of the license buyers fish for trout. Sport fishing in California is a wonderful pastime and it is time we focus on modernizing our hatchery and wild trout programs.

The work to maintain California's ecological treasures is both difficult and never-ending. Since I became governor of California, I have been committed to leading by example to protect California's natural resources. I established an Environmental Action Plan to lead the way in meeting our new environmental challenges. Additionally, I created the 25 million acre Sierra Nevada Conservancy and sponsored the first ocean protection act in the nation.

Again, thank you for taking the time to email. I value the comments of people like you who care about the future of our great State.

Sincerely,

Arnold Schwarzenegger

I wish all our governors would feel the same way. Good for you Dryrod. They just tell us here that the hatcheries are at full potential. But not about building anymore. But then my gov is a girlie girl.[Wink][Wink]

Quote:Thank you for emailing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger regarding AB 7. The
Governor appreciates you voicing your opinions on proposed legislation affecting
our State.

The Governor does not take a position on legislation until a final bill has
reached his desk. The Legislature has until September 9, 2005 to pass
legislation and the Governor has until October 9, 2005 to sign or veto proposed
bills. Should the Governor take action on this bill, the Governor's Office will
notify you at that time.

You may continue to follow this and any other bill before the State Legislature
at the Official California Legislative Website: www.leginfo.ca.gov. You may
also read any legislative messages from the Governor at his website:
www.governor.ca.gov.

Again, the Governor appreciates your interest in California's future. An
informed and engaged citizenry is important to effective government in our
State.

Sincerely,

Office of Constituent Affairs

[#00bf00]That's what I received from the governor of California, so I was unaware that it passed. I am glad it did, because WE put a lot of work into this.
Actually I never realized how big Connecticut's hatcheies were until I saw one in person. Still, we always could use more!
