I believe I have seen on this site a contraption that housed a fish finder for ice fishing. I am looking for some ideas on how I can consolidate my Garmin fish finder into a small cooler or bucket. If anybody has had experience with this, I would appreciate it.

Hey Fisher-man,

I went into Sportsman's in Riverdale and they had an ammo box set up with everything you will need for the finder on ice. Less than $20.00 for everything but a battery. The battery is about $20.00 also.
I put mine together in less than 15 minutes. I love it!

Does the transducer fit inside the box?

a small plastic tackle box like for a kid. take out shelves and install it in. the trans ducer i used a peace of coat hanger to make rod that holds it strait down the side of my hole im fishing. i bent a litle hook in the top of the hanger to secure to ice and winded the cord around the wire. keeps everything nice and tidey. battery and all inside with a lid for blocking sun and snow. cost less than 10 bucks new. maybee 2 or 3 from a yr sale.

This is a picture of mine. They sell these set-ups at Sportsmans warehouse in Provo, (probably the other SW's too). It has worked fantastic for me in the 2 years I have used it.

Fisher-Man, Yes it does. It is mounted on a 10" long piece of 1/2" PVC pipe with other piping that makes a "T". This holds the transducer in place. You can also add another piece of PVC if you want to go longer.
Very quick and easy to put together. My son uses his on his float tube when there is no ice.

Fishhound posted the link to mine (which I got from here) and I'm updating mine to include a RAM mount per suggestions from here as well. Everything, including the transducer and PVC pipes to with it, fits inside. I like it because it seels it off from weather and it easy to carry in the little cooler.

The cooler or ammo box setups work very well. I personally use a tackle box. My finder is in the top, and I can carry quite a bit of ice tackle down below in the drawers, so it kills 2 birds with one stone. When I get home from work I'll post a pic of the setup. I don't think there is one "right way", however if you take some time and set it up right, you will be very happy with the unit.
Hey Rich, no pics of your spankin' new Marcum???
Here is a pic of my setup.
