I have been looking at vexilar or marcum for flasher fish finder. Then I saw that lowrance makes a digital flasher. Does anybody know if these digital flashers work as well as the vexilar or marcum? If anybody knows anything about these your reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are lots of things to consider. Flashers are mechanical. The motors wear out. The manufacturers recommend that you replace the brushes every 2 or 3 years, and the motor itself every 5 to 8 years. They are however impervious to the cold weather. LCDs can freeze if you leave them off in very cold weather. I keep mine in the cab of my truck while driving to and from the water. The new flashers have three colors to indicate the strength of the returning echo. If you get a color LCD, they use at least 7 or more colors. I read an ad that said there were two guys fishing that could tell the difference between a 4 inch perch and a 4 inch crappie by the color on the LCD flasher.

Good luck trying to decide.

I have a lowrance with a digital flasher and it works great. I have never had a problem with freezing. If you have never used a flasher Ice fishing you are in for a treat. They are awesome. I have never owned a standard flasher but I know most serious ice fishermen swear by them. If you are looking to go cheap you won't go wrong with a low end lowrance but if it were me and I had the money I would get the vex or marcum.

I have a Lowrance m68 ice machine. It has a flasher, standard graph, gps and about a hundred ways of using all of them, side by side graphs and flashers with zoom. I love it, although I've never used a vex or marcum.
