Full Version: Mounting a Fish Finder to a Pontoon Boat

Alright, after hours of research I finally found the solution to mounting a fish finder to a pontoon boat without having to design a mount from scratch. All the components are ram mount components See www.ram-mount.com for more components.

The picture below is the componet to attach to the pontoon boat frame. You can either attach it near the oars or by the foot bars.

The next picture is double ball socket that attaches to the picture above and to the fishfinder mount.

The next picture is the base for the fishfinder. This particular one will fit the Eagle Cuda (I picked up the 168 model from Sportman's Warehouse for 69.99). The base will attach to the socket above.

The great thing about the mount is that since is sits on a ball you can turn, raise, or lower the fish finder to where you want it.

I was able to buy everthing for under $40 from www.gpszone.com

As far as the transducer is concerned, I am going to mount it directly to the motor. I bought a clamp for a few dollars. then I will run the cord along the shaft and secure with zip ties. When I want to take my trolling motor off, I will just uplug the cable from the fish finder.

Once I get my set up complet, I will post some pics.

Hopefully this helps out anyone who has been trying to figure a good way to mount a fishfinder to their pontoon boat.

[cool][#0000ff]That is a lot of nice hardware, for the creatively challenged. It's good that they have such mounts and adaptors. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have always fiddled around with various home-built contraptions. If you look down through the links, on the Best of The Best thread, above, you will find suggestions and pictures for a lot of different designs. There are also a lot of pics on sonar mounting on the Picture Board.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We will look forward to seeing some pics of your completed installation. We also look forward to some good reports of how they worked on the water.[/#0000ff]

Here's how I mount my PiranahMax 20. The strap goes through the base mount of the unit and the piece of foam sheathing gives something for the strap to bite into for a real secure mount. Battery is in the pockey immediately behind unit and the transducer hangs down from the opening between the two pontoons at the back of the Fat Cat. I have it stuck into and taped to a short piece of pool noodle. Cables are controlled by inserting into the pocket with the battery. If you look closely you'll see one of your roadrunners with a small pink twistertail grub attached to the foam. This combination produced this nice fat rainbow for me today. Water was 35 degrees. I was nicely layered and very warm except for my toes.

[#0000ff]I was planning to put together a separate post on my newest sonar display mount. Here are three pics from the series, showing my use of a 97 cent plastic electrical box from Home Depot. It is just the right size to fit inside the front "drink pocket" on my Fat Cat. I drilled and screwed the sonar base to the flat bottom and cut slots in each side and ran the strap around to help cinch it in place.[/#0000ff]

That looks really efficient. It looks like that electrical box was designed for your fish finder. Gonna cook that rainbow for supper tonight!
