[shocked] Me and a buddy fished the berry this afternoon and we discovered a new weapon. Forget the tubes, the curly tailed white grub is King!!!! Yes, that's right, a grub. Amazing action all afternoon. We could not find the white tubes with the gold fleck at Sportsman's so I bought the grubs that had the gold in them. Wow, what a jig. The fish took my grub over the tubes. We tried both and there was a difference. The only problem was that the big fish ripped them up faster. We caught over 25 fish each and two over the slot, one 23 and one 25 inches. Where else on this planet can you catch such amazing fish this size and so many?!

Oh, I almost forgot, at East Portal, I counted 15 float tubes and kick boats within 300 yards. I thought I was in New York. What is going on? A Tuesday in late November and it was a freeway on the water. I was afraid of hitting somebody all day. I had to keep looking behind me to keep from running people over. I would have been mad if the fishing had not been so good. I guess it is not secret that the fishing is good right now. Bonus days to be sure. I thought I had died and gone to fishing heaven. Bonus!!!!!

I'm here on Thanksgiving vacation and hit the Berry yesterday in my tube but only managed 6 fish all day. I was using a white tube jig but I don't think I know the proper technique. How are you fishing the tubes and grubs? Vertical, hopped on the bottom, steady retrieve...? I'm gonna try to hit it one more time before I have to go home so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Hoosier,

Both of us were casting and retrieving the grub and tubes steady. Sometimes we even trolled the tubes and it worked all day. We could not locate concentrations of fish on the bottom and noticed that the fish were all over the water column. So, vertical jigging was not the best. What worked the best was to troll the lure up high or down about 10 feet. The hits were very stready and changing up speed or twiching seemed to help. If they hit the lure short, don't take it away with a big set, be patient and let them have it until they take it hard. Good luck.
