I'll be in Idaho this weekend and will have 2 days to play after the funeral. I haven't done much fishing in this area except private ponds and private property. I was wondering if anybody had some ideas about where would be good this time of year. I'm open for any suggestions.

There have been several posts on the Idaho board about that neck of the woods. You might want to look there and give a holler.

[#0000ff]Shoot him a PM. He lives in Idaho Falls and fishes all over up there. There's another member...Everett something...who actually lives in Rexburg. Maybe he will chime in.[/#0000ff]

Hey What about me!!! I actually live in Rexburg.[cool] Do you want to fish rivers or icefish? I am all about the ice right now. Check my post on Island Park, Roberts Gravel Pond, and the Rexburg Nature Pond on the Idaho board. Post on the Idaho Board or send me a PM and I would be glad to help you with what I can. In fact I would take you where you want to go but I have to coach a wrestling tournament this weekend.

Good Luck Ya'll

Thanks TubeDude for pointing hedgesd in my direction. Glad I was hanging around here tonight. Windriver has pretty well hit it on the head for some ice fishing in the immediate area. Roberts Pond has been the best to this point for quanity of fish. Island Park has the potential for the bigger fish, just fewer of them to this point in time. Plus weather conditions can prohibit fishing time when headed to Island Park this time of year. Depends on the day. As Windriver chimed in, the Rexburg Nature Ponds can also be a lot of fun and a very short drive to. Shoot me a PM if you would like anything further guys.

[cool]Hey windriver, what are these "nature ponds," where are they located, and how come I have never heard of them? I went to Ricks College a few years back (haven't been back there since '96) and back then I had never heard of any "nature ponds."

We used to fish near Beaver Dick (LOL) Park once, but mostly at the Snake River near a place called Twin Bridges, or something like that out towards that "Big Judds" burger joint (can't remember the name of that tiny little town). On the Snake down there we'd cast Panther Martins and catch some nice Browns. Also, once we fished at a place called Lower Mesa Falls, and nailed a bunch of trout (don't recall which variety) with spinners also (in the summertime-probably couldn't get there right now).

But tell me about these nature ponds, please. I'm curious about them.

The Rexburg Nature Park is a series of ponds that are formed out of the Rexburg water treatment system. They say the water is fine by the time it gets to the ponds but I don't eat the fish out of there if you know what I mean.[Wink] It is a beautiful park with a running path, ducks, picnic tables, a skate park etc... It is located just West of the fair grounds. Right now their are a lot of 10" planters, but you always have the chance at the elusive gold fish!!!

Good Luck

[cool]So all they have in there are planter 'bows and goldfish? That sucks! I was hopeing maybe they had some channel cats, or perch or bluegills, at least.[crazy]

There are some perch. I caught one this summer that was 13" but most are like 6".

You can fish all along most of the Irrigation canals over there. They usually shut off the water in the winter time but there are many small ponds that are left behind.

If you go around the headgate areas you can catch Whitefish, Cuts, Bows and even a surprise Brown or 2.[cool]

Hey hedgesd,

Like it has been said the rexburg city ponds offer ice fishing for small stockers, but you wil probably catch a bunch. IP reservoir offers good ice fishing for the bigger fish although it could be a tough fish. My personal opinion, if you like to fish rivers, would be the upper south Fork, or the lower Henry's Fork near the town of Chester at Fun Farm bridge. The South and Henry's fork offer real quality fish. If you fish either river I would use either a Black or Brown size 6 or 8 rubberlegs with a san juan worm, egg pattern, pheasant tail, or a hares ear nymph as a dropper. Of course, below an indicator. If you need specific directions to any of these places shoot me a pm

Have fun
