my buddy and myself hit rockport today. man the bite was slow for us.
i should say for him, i got skunked again. ice was 6 to 7 inches on the south end, fished in 19 foot to 30 foot of water.
but like last weekend, i caught a great breakfast of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns on the ice again.
here is a picture of the fish. real nice fat bows.
snowed most of the day real lightly.
still a great day with great company.

What??? No pictures of the breakfast? Those are some plump bows. Did you guys ice any perchies? Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the report Ironworker, those are some nice looking bows, what was your friend using? Sounds like the perch will take a little work to find this year, did you see anyone around you catching any? I hope you have better luck next trip. WH2

I also Fished rockport with my son today. We fished the east side in the morning and west side in the afternoon. It is a different year. Many of the places that I could always find perch were flat out empty. No bites and nothing showing up on the fish finder in many of the holes we drilled. Lots and lots of empy iceholes. Talked to lots of people leaving the ice with few or no fish.
We did manage to find some perch and once we did the fishing was good. Caught a limit of perch each, with six 15-16 inch rainbows, and one 16 inch brown mixed in. Bows were incredibly fat and in good shape. Brown looked like a snake though. We used jig heads tipped with meal worms. Fished water from 15-50+ feet. Probably drilled 20+ holes.
Rockport is not what it used to be, but the fish are there to be had with a little work.
Maybe I should head up to Strawberry and get some exercise pulling out big cutts instead of getting my workout from drilling holes.
Didn't see any BFT people there, but there was a blue GMC pickup in the parking lot with stickers in the back window that was pulling out as we were leaving.
later,
Chester

[cool]Nice report, Chester. The GMC that you saw was probably Randy (hellsangler69). Wonder how he did? We had a slow day yesterday out there. Only a couple of perch and one bow caught. I lost a nice 'bow (about 20 inches) right at the bottom of the hole. ARGH!!
I think that most of the perch are still out deeper (in the middle) eating the bloodworms and crustacean larvae etc. on the muddy bottom out there and will come in shallower next month (just my opinion though). Remember, Rockport doesn't usually have safe ice till AT LEAST new years (two hole weeks from now). I think the perchie fishin will get better next month out there.

[#ff4040]I agree with O4T. I think the perchies are still deeper. Usually I don't get into the perch until january or so out there. *hopefully* we are on the right track.....and they will not come shallow til later......*hopefully*[/#ff4040]

That was me in the GMC . It took me a little time to find them but I did . They seem to be moving around a lot . I think there numbers are down some but it might bring some bigger fish . Way to go on the brown . I still haven't hooked one yet but I will be trying more now . I been trying to find a tiger trout out of there too .
