I have been hearing nasty rumors that the DWR is planning on letting the brookies in some of my favorite Boulder Mountain lakes die off and restock with cuts... This would be disastrous to my fishing moral....anybody heard anything?[unsure][unsure]

Isn't this question about 4 years late?
The DWR has already done the majority of the work on the Boulder Mtn rennovation project. There were a number of lakes that were poisoned, and restocked with cutthroat. The ONLY lakes that were effected were lakes that have had chronic stuntint problems with brook trout. Most of these lakes are already in better shape than previously. Solitare lake, for example, is already putting out 16-18" cutthroat, which is better than the 12" brook trout it was producing for years.
Fish Creek and Beaver Dam reservoirs have been restocked this past fall. Fish Creek was re-stocked with cutthroat and tiger trout, while Beaver Dam was re-stocked with sterile brook trout. Beaver Dam might return to the fishery it was prior to the dam repair work which raised the lake level enough to provide ample spawning grounds, which resulted in the brook trout overpopulating, and stunting.
Basically, the lakes that were targeted by the rennovation were chosen for very specific reasons. There were not any lakes that were hit that produced trophy brook trout. Many of the lakes are all ready better off than before, and all should be.
Personally, I am extremely excited to fish the Boulder Mtn this coming spring/summer. The mountain has not lost any of the trophy brook trout status, and it's gaining excellent cutthroat, as well as trophy tiger trout and splake at the same time. Fishing the Boulder Mtn is only getting better.

Thank you for your response... I was concerned because I was told that one of my favorite lakes would not be restocked with brook trout and cutthroats would be stocked in the future. I am glad to hear that the trophy fisheries are going to stay that way.
However, I was concerned at the low number of fish I encountered this year. I hope conditions will provide for many more fish next year.

Oh, and by the way, the reason for the late question is that I have been in law school for the past three years and just made it back to Utah. This fall was the first time I have been back to bounder mountain in years.

I got a question for you PBH (or any other in the know) i was chatting with a biologist at the Egan hatchery and he mentioned about how they steralize the fish, but i kinda soned out, i think he mentioned something about flash heating the fish, but im not positive, can you shed some light on the process of stearlizing the fish, thanks
