Have any of you guys been fishing at all this week on the smaller resiviors that had safe ice last week. This warmer weather makes you wonder if things are still fishable. I am taking next week off from work and would like to hit Devils, Deep Creek and maybe Crowthers if the ice is still in good shape. any info would help.
My dad and little brother went up this morning. My dad put his auger down on the ice on the edge and he said it went right through at Crowthers. They headed up to Devils Creek and they passed a guy that had caught a bundle, but he was already leaving at about 7:45 and he said the ice was 12" out in the middle. My brother decided to go out and he fell through just passed his knees. It sounds like you need a plank or something. They even tried to empty their ice sled and sit in it to go across and that even started breaking through. I was going to go up there on Monday, but I don't know if it is worth it. This warmth isn't going to let up from what I hear.

I was at Glendale on Monday. Where the shoreline is steep by the dam I had to make a leap of faith to get on the ice. Where the shoreline was more gradual you would have needed a plank.
The edges are going to get worse everyday with the warm weather and rising reserviors so I wouldn’t leave home without a plank. I would be surprised if you couldn’t ice fish Devil Creek if you brought a plank even if the weather stayed like this for the next week or more. Crowthers typically doesn't have as thick of ice as Devil Creek so I would recommend you use more caution there. I would rather walk on 3” of quality ice than 8” of questionable ice.

thanks for the info kicknbass

One thing that I have done in the past is to roll a giant snowball to use as a bridge.

I drove past Devils Creek on Christmas Day and saw four ice fisherman out on the end by the dam, but the ice looked really iffy and thin in the middle by the boat ramp. I would like to get out this week to give it a try, but I am a chicken when it comes to getting on to weak ice. Probably from too many times going through the ice on my Dad's irrigation pond when I was a kid. Acey

Thanks for the update acey.
A friend told me that the ice has come off American Falls. That's too bad because it was completely ice covered before it started to warm up.

Went to Daniels yesterday. Stepped across the soft edge to the ice in the morning, and going back across the soft edge in the afternoon......well, let's just say that the parts of me that were dry, after all of the rain, got wet. But, there is 11" of ice on the main lake, so take a plank if you want to get out. The lake was rising and the rainwater that was standing on the ice was pouring into my ice hole. It looked like water pouring into an aquarium from a filter with all of the particulates doing swirlies. The fishing wasn't that good. Three of us iced 8 fish and none over 18".

Went to Deep creek Monday 26th with kickenbass and some of the shoreline was soft but access by the boat dock was good. Once on the ice you had 8-10" of good clear ice. Catching was spotty but the fish are fat and decent size, 13 to 17" and spunky putting 4 lb test to the test.
