OK- I know a few sled junkies exist on the board. I know a little about sleds, but not enough. I'm curous about recommendations on early 1990's sleds (89-95) for ice fishing and towing my kids around with a tube/sled behind. I've got a pass from my wife to buy one and want to do it right- if such a concept exists! [unsure]

My primary, number one concern are as follows:

1- Good, "old reliable" engine? A few people have told me before some are like energizer bunnies, some require a little more TLC.

2- Light, I've gotta load/unload this beast! I do have a small trailer I will tow it on, but it's not a tilt trailer.

3- Price range is fair? I'm thinking I can get into for right around $1k.

Thanks for ANY help and anything else I should consider when looking for a good ice fishing sled?

From everything you described, it sounds like you will probably end up with either a Yamaha Phazer or a Polaris Indy. Both are around 500 cc's (and 500 lbs) and shouldn't require a whole lot in maintenance. What ever you get, do yourself a favor and get one with a long track (136") it will keep you from getting stuck (or minimize it) which is a major killjoy in snowmobiling.

I've been looking at the Polaris Indy XLT's and Indy Trails. From what I remember the trails are very light and good in the deeper powder?
