many of my bft friend have been to my house and have been greated by my dog Duke with excitment. Duke had to be put down this evening because of cancer,

i woke up this morning to go ice fishing with my son and to take duke with us but he was limping so we left him home .when we got back he was limping mor severly and was moaning so my wife took him to the vet and they did x-ray and found that his joints where deteriated by the cancer. which i dont understand my dog never walked anywhere always 90mph from here to there.

i never got close to any animals we ever had so when they went i never had a problem with it. but dukes passing is hitting me pretty hard.

I'll miss you Duke....

Petty,

That sucks dude. Did you know that Duke had cancer for awhile?? He was a good dog. I was hoping to get with ya in the next couple of weeks to take him and Lillie ice fishing. Sorry for your loss!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I’ll dread the day when I have to put my dog down.

didn't know about the cancer till it was to late. there was no sign's of it. we could have had his front leg amputated but a big active dog like duke he may as well be dead and the vet said the cancer had spread and that ampitation would just proong is life by months. we couldn't watch him suffer. my kids are taking the loss better then me and the wife. kids are already talking about getting another dog. hard to loose a dog so young duke was only 5yrs old. we had had him for almost 2yrs.

Petty,

I dont look forward to the day when Lillie goes down. Losing a dog sucks!! [Sad] Just a little over 4 years ago, my dog I had for 17 years got hit and killed by a car. A week after it happened Lillie was born, and for some god unknown reason ended up at my house as a holy terror. I am sure there is something in the making for you and your kids!!! [blush]

Petty,

I'm sorry. I can feel for you. My daughter in South Dakota had a big yellow lab that I learned to love like no other dog I've ever known. She lost him just before Christmas & I felt almost like I'd lost a child. He was 13 yrs old though. My heart goes out to you & your family.

Sorry to hear Jason. Duke was a good dog, and it's tough to have to put one down that is so young.

My condolences Jason. I know how hard it is to make that decision. I had to do that last year with a 13 year old dog that we raised from a puppy. She had been with us since my daughter was two.

I hope there will be another dog in your family soon.

Jason, I am really sorry to hear about your dog. I lost my first dog to cancer after 13 great years. I have alot of special memories of that dog. Dogs are the best and it sure is hard to lose one. When you feel like you are ready there are plenty puppies that would be lucky to live at your address. gshorthair

Jason, really sorry to learn of your loss. Encouraging that your children are accepting it as well as they are.

Sorry to hear that Jason. I know what its like. I had to have my lab put down about 2 years ago and it still gets to me when I go hunting or camping without him.

after a hard week without our friend we made te decision that we wanted to get another dog within a month and on thursday night i got a call from someone at work that had found a pur breed black lab puppy that needed a home the kids convinced my wife that we needed to go look at it and when we saw it we knew that we had found our new friend. so we welcomed "BO" into our home and it have been very fun to watch a puppy run.

Good Deal!

We lost two dogs within 9 months of each other, one due to old age and the other do to side effects of taking medications for severe hip displaysia. My wife wanted to wait several months before getting another dog, but after one month the house seemed so empty with out the sounds of dogs she went out and found a pure bred yellow Lab at the Humane Society. It worked out great and I am sure that your new dog will as well.

I was married in 98'. although there was a "human" best man, the true best man there was my Golden, Norman. He was the best friend a family could have, I inherited Norm when my wifes grand dad passed. He never left my side except to attend to wife while she was pregnant, and after that he traded me in for the baby who I think he believed was his not mine. one night in 00' Norm took a turn and lost color and became very lethargic, we took him to emergency room at 2am and the vet brought the bad news that a cancer polip on his liver had ruptured and he was slowly bleeding out into his own body cavity. we put him down. he was not the first pet lost during my life time, but he was MY first pet lost in my life. he wasnt my families pet he was my best freind, overcoming the status of "family dog" he was norm my drinkin, fishin, woman chasing buddy. I still have a pic of him in a black bow tie at my wedding, and the pictures of all the "guys" at the wedding include all of us sitting with him all of us in our ties ( it was a formal affair). I still miss him but I still feel him too and I know he showed us to the girls we have now, Roxy and Lady, a Golden and black lab respectively, and they together make up about one norm....so I think he knew he couldnt be with us, so he got us the next best thing, and he's waiting with my wifes gramps for us to show up. still in his tie waiting for the party to start again.
Sorry to hear of your loss, I have been there and am planning on being there at least 2 times more.
but I wouldnt want it any other way, the fun is getting there with them, and joining them after the dance for the post party.
good luck. stay strong.
