May try to head up there in the AM, and I would appreciate it if anyone knew what the ice situation was. I want to do some open water fishing--is that possible? Specifically, I'm looking at the area north of the boat launch (Mayflower exit of HWY 40)--the bays, etc.

Thanks in advance!

I drive by there everyday on my way to work and tuesday or wednesday there was a little skim over most of the north part of the lake, but it broke up during the afternoon. The rest of the week there was no ice. Friday was the last day I was up and i don't know what happened over the weekend, but as of friday it was open and fishable, The ramp looked snow free, but I have no idea how slick it might be. If you want I'll be at work by 8:00 and can log back it and let you know what the conditions are up to date.

I'd like to know if the ramp is usable. I need to run my boat more and try out the new electric downriggers. I'd like to go up Tuesday if possible. Gotta get the snow off the boat first, though.

I read a post yesterday that said, they had seen a boat on the lake in the last couple of days. If I can remember what post it was, I'll edit this post with the link. WH2

That would be great if you could let me know. I don't think I'll be heading at too very early--it just doesnt seem worth it in the cold. Probably after breakfast some time. I'll check back to see what you've discovered.

I appreciate it!

Koke-a-mack made the post on the DWR site, he saw the boat yesterday. You will need to copy and paste: http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/forums/view...php?t=9052
If the main ramp isn't open try the PWC ramp.

[cool][#0000ff]You might also consider the PWC ramp, over on the south side of the Hailstone area. It faces south and usually stays open until the whole lake freezes solid. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The big question, after the recent weather, is whether or not the ramp is snow covered and/or icy. It is definitely a shorter ramp to launch from than the main ramp. As of a couple of weeks ago, the water level was only a short ways from the top of the ramp.[/#0000ff]

thats the ramp i was talking about, and it looked fine. but, with all of this new weather it is most likely a completely different story.

I just drove by and the main lake is open, there is a little ice in the backs of some of the small bays on the north end of the lake. The main ramp looks snowcovered, it was a little brown looking throught he bonoculars so I'm assuming it's snow packed, I couldn't see the PWC ramp, but like TD said it is South facing and melts much sooner so I would think it is open, we only got a skiff of snow up here yesterday so even if it's not melted I sure a few hours of sun on the backtop will melt it quickly. In my opinion you would certainly be good to go by 10 or so if not by now.

Thanks for the link to the camera, only problem is I played around with it for 5 minutes before I realized its night time and that's why I can't see anything, not that there is a problem with the site.[Tongue]
