Left Lehi at 5:30 drove 120 miles to Porcupine, got there at 7:30. there is thin Ice over about 1/2 of the reservoir. the ice at the dam was only about 1 1/2" thick at the most. A rock the size of a pineapple would break a small hole through. I don't carry much brass so we went down to Mantua and caught a dozen or so blue gills.
The road was plowed to the base of the dam, and the road to the top was not too bad. I would recommend 4wheel drive. Maybe in a couple of weeks there will be more ice.

Thanks for the report Fish-Dog. I'm sorry you made the long drive only to find the ice too thin to get out on. I'm glad you did find a spot to wet a line and get a couple of fish.

Too bad about the trip. I was wondering about the ice conditions up there. Cache Valley has been unseasonably warm this year. Porcupine is typically one of the last lakes to freeze.

FishDog, whereabouts on Mantua did you catch all those bluegills?

That's too bad about the long drive, and then to be let down by the pig. It did the same thing last year....almost froze, then it got real warm, and slowed things way down. Probably a week or two before safe ice, that is if the weather stays cool.

This was my first trip to Mantua, so I was just guessing were to go. We drove along the west side nearly to the south end and then walked out to 16' of water (2/3 of the way across) The gills were from 4 to 8 inches. They were caught on a pink ratfinkee with a wax worm or meal worm.
