I am finally getting out this weekend with the grandkids, for the first time in 2 years. I haven't decided where to go yet. We are thinking of Lost Creek. I love to fish that lake in the winter. My other choice is Echo but haven't seen any reports from there.I just want to go somewhere where we will get a few fish. Any help would be appreciated.

Lost Creek would be a good choice. One problem that I encountered there last year though was when I took my 4 year old grandson up there it was very cold. We didn't have a shelter and the sun doesn't get down to the ice untill
about 9:00am. He didn't have the best of warm clothing so we had to go home after only half an hour of fishing.
It's very hard to find good warm clothing for small kids, so have hand warmers and a heater if you can, or make it a warm day when you go. Better yet take a shelter. The next problem will be getting the shelter and gear back up the hill.
After all that, you may consider going to Rockport, where the sun shines and the ramp makes getting on and off the ice much easier.

Thanks for the advice. I am well equiped for the cold. We have shanty's and heaters. I know what you mean about the hike up and out. That is what I bring the kids for. They tote it all up and out for me. My grandkids that go with me are 11 and 7 and a 16 year old son.So I tell them that is why they are there is to tote for me. HAHA. How is the road up.

Hi Sandy. The most consistent thing that I've heard about working at Lost Creek is jigs tipped with power bait. The road up is a little slippery, but it's plowed to the dam.
There was a report yesterday about Echo. Apparently the ice is building back up, but not too many perch this year. Of course there are always some nice trout there.
Good luck, and nice to see you back.

Hi icefool
I know that are familiar with Manutau, if you know where some of the deep holes are I think about going there. I was there last week and with my aque-view I had a good time and getting all the different kinds of the fishes to bite. I was in about ten feet of water, I would think that the bigger perch are in deeper water, but I did hooked into a nice bass for about five minutes.

Thanks for the info Mateo. I was thinking about Mantua but with the kids I don't trust the ice up there.
Hey Hydrotech those camera's are cool. We have one and I get to busy watching the fish when I should be catching the fish. Maybe someday I will be able to icefish Mantua.

I am bringing this back to the top. I know there has to be more out there that have fished Lost Creek. I haven't posted on here for a long time but I read all the time. I have been a member for a very long time.I really need some info on how it is doing.

Hi icefool
I was there (Mantua) today by the boat ramp and the ice was real good, the fishing wasn't. I really like camera at lest you can see the fishes turn there noses up at your hook. If you go there find about ten feet of water.

Sandy,
Did you read my report from Saturday? We fished about 4 hours and got about 20 or so. All on Power Bait. Nothing fancy, just a hook with goo on it and a few sinkers to help it go down. We took the sleds over by the boat launch, but the people we talked to were catching them over by the damm too. Ice varies in thinkness, we ran into the middle of the lake and it got real thin, about 2 or 3 inches. Normally that is enough ice for me but we had Dan's daughter with us and her Mom would kill me if anything happened to her. Oh, we were in 32' of water and everything came off the bottom.
IFG
was the parking lot plowed can you turn a 28 ft trailer around. thanks for any enfo.

The lot is plowed, but has some snow in it. The problem is, I don't know how many people will be there. It was pretty tight getting the truck and sled trailer in since there were so many trucks in the lot. Get there early and it shouldn't be a problem.
IFG
Hi IFG,
Thanks for the info. We will probably give it a try Saturday.

Hydroteck: How do you keep the fish from tangling around the down cable on your aqua view when you hook up?
Do you run your cable down a separate hole, and do you have the camera above the fish or parallel to the fish? I'm just finishing building my own camera setup and was wondering how to use it. I was at Mantua Wed. and caught a few with a little fishin buddy finder in a separate hole and I had a couple tangle around the transducer. That got me thinking about the down cable?......

Just thought I would pass this bit of information on. I think I heard on the radio today that they are having some kind of widowmaker snowmobile run by Croydon this weekend. Didn't catch the exact location, but I'm guessing you might see a few vehicles up that way.

We have an aquaview also and haven't had a problem with the fish wrapping around the cable. We put a hole outside one of the doors to the ice tent and put the camera down that. We turn it until we can see both lures and let it sit. They are real nice to have.

The widowmaker is between the cement plant and Croydon, (Off to the right). Go into Croydon and turn left and keep on truckin to lost creek damn. If you take the cut off road to the left just past the cement plant, you might get jammed up with the freebie onlookers.
