Don, is that whinning I hear? I've heard whinning before and it sounds a lot like that. Here's how the phone conversation would go.
CF: I'm tired of catching 4 pound fish.
IFG: So go to the Gorge.
CF: It ain't froze yet.
IFG: You went last year and it wasn't froze yet.
CF: But I'm older and wiser, besides I'm sober now.
IFG: Forget the meetings, grab a jug and head north old timer.
CF: But bad things might happen.
IFG: What's the worst thing that could happen?
CF: I might die?
IFG: 40 pound Mack.
CF: But I could die!
IFG: 40 pound MACK!
CF: I'm sure there is gas in the sled, I'll have to check the oil, fish finded is charged and the Onion in Moutain View opens at 9.
IFG: That's the spirit, now go and get them, I'll be right behind you. I've got your back buddy.
CF: I need somebody to get my front.
IFG: You don't use that part anymore anyway.
Sound of a dial tone.

Seriously, have Austin call me. I'd take advice from Big Bird if it helps me to get a big Bow out of da Berry.

there are some nice fat bows on the ramp at aspen. white marraboo tipped with salmon eggs works good on the also litle tough guys tipped with waxie and a egg. as soon as it starts melting the bows are thick on that ramp. berkley power grubs in crayfish kills every yr. dead slow half inch at a time 5 to 10 seconds between each jig move. we hit it every yr on that spot just to catch fat bows.

I'm sure I can answer part of your question. they were at the dam I'm pretty sure. there's a small spot just off the dam that the walleye come up to feed on. it's about 50 feet deep, and I do mean small spot. if your 10 feet away from the spot you will be 10 feet away from the walleye and thats the way it will be. no bites no nothing, beleve me I learned this the hard way, watching my friends catch about 8 walleyes and I had no bites at all. for about 30 minutes still nothing, I moved right next to them and I caught 3 in just a few minutes then the bite shut off. find that spot and you will score.
I don't know how thick the ice is. hope all this helps later chuck

didnt ask him how thick. he is a ice wuss if its not at least 4 inches he is spooked. they he was by the bridge. and that spot by the dam is forty or so yrs from dam face and about 100 west of the dam building. that bite last about 1 hr and like chuck said its done...

I've jigged there in the open water, but I'm an ice wuss myself. I wouldn't go out there unless I knew for sure. Just something about the security of a boat on open water rather than walking on thin ice{{{{{{{gives me the chills, I think I'll hold off till may.
