Well, word is in. Utah has named the replacement to the recently vacated Sport Fish Coordinator (formerly Tom Pettingill) position: Roger Wilson -- formerly the special projects leader at Strawberry Reservoir.

So, it seems that for the most part the guys over at UOTF are pretty happy with this decision. But, that figures. They're all a bunch of elitist fly-fishing trout guys.

What about the walleye / perch crowd from over here at BFT? How do you guys feel about Roger Wilson?

I'm excited, after what he did for the fishery at the Berry maybe he can improve some more fisheries in the state. I'd love to see a seperation between put and take lakes and true blue ribbon fisheries. While unrealistic, I'd like to see a 50/50 split in the two types. While I don't fly fish, I love catching big fish, and don't mind throwing them back at all. Can I be a hook and meat elitist?

IFG
It sounds like an excellent choice to me. If he can duplicate his Strawberry success on a statewide level, we all will be happy.

I personally think he'll do a goog job, although may be a little jaded towards the slimers...but hey, I like catching them too!

As long as the guy is willing to get involved with and listen to the public who cares what his personal intrests and background are?

That was the very best thing about Tom pettingill. The man was great at getting out and being with the fishing public.
He used to visit the tackle stores and talk fishing to people there, put on seminars on trolling tactics, and he was always talking to fishermen.
If the new guy wants the respect of the utah fishing public his past wont mean much, its what he does with himself now, and how he responds to the folks who buy the liscenses that will make him a great coordinator or a failure.

So dont worry just yet crossineyes, this guy still has a chance to be the greatest coordinator the state has seen.

whats so funny about his succes is that for yrs i went to the dwr ans told then i had an idea on how to regulate that pound... with the slot and all i got was bs from the division. the devels advocate treatment.. i bugged them ever time i had a chance. at boat show d miller show. on the dang water every time i was checked. ask ut walleye he witnest my dwr tyrades! i knew it would serv the the berry just as it did the gorge. the last thing i want is credit for it just dont want some guy that doesnt deserve credit to claim it was him. he most defantley plaid a huge roll. but it was not his idea at all. this state thinks the fishermen are stupid and do not under stand nature how and why she works. if they would just be moore open to the possabillity sportsman pay attention and do lern. i will be open to witness his true worth as a coordinator.

xingeyes -- If it makes you feel any better, I submitted your name as Pettingill's replacement. Did they ever contact you for an interview, or anything?

Oh, who's to say that your input on the slot wasn't a big reason for the slot being put in place?

By the way, as has already been pointed out, Roger is known for his public involvement. If nothing else, you should at least be happy for that.
