Fished Electric Lake and Scofield Saturday with Tincanfsh and smittyts. We parked at the dam in the one and only parking place that was somewhat plowed. Put on our snowshoes (almost a necessity at Electric Lake) and climbed over a mountain of snow and under a barb wire fence to reach the dam. Walked across the dam and then down the corner of the dam to the ice. Took kidsnme's advice and left my 150 foot long anchor rope on the side of the mountain. There was no indication of ice breakage near the shore from water being drawn down, and there was only about 1 inch of slush on the ice. However, there was about two feet of snow on the ice and the snow was much deeper on the land. Went with great expectations of fast fishing; however, the fish were not to be found. Saw a few on the fishfinder, but not many. Drilled lots of holes through at least 2 feet of ice, and despite our best efforts, we only landed a total of six fish. Early PM decided to head to Scofield. When we left two of us pulled on the anchor rope while one of us kept the sled upright. It was still a major task to get the sled back up the hill, but much easier than it would have been to try to drag it up while climbing. Started fishing at Scofield at 3:30 PM and fished until it was dark. We landed three fish at Scofield including a mighty five incher that I caught. The drive down Spanish Fork canyon took forever at a top speed of 25 mph (snow packed roads and it was still snowing) for almost the entire trip.

I'm surprised you found the fishing so slow at e-lake! That's too bad. At least you guys made it home in one piece. Thanks for the report.

Wow, I wonder what is going on with E-lake??? That is not normal for the ice fishing up there. Could you tell if anyone else has been on the ice or was there to much snow?
I glad the rope thing made it somewhat easier for you. That steep is just a bugger no matter how you tackle it.

Thanks for the report and braving the mountians of snow for it.

No signs that anyone had been on the ice recently, and yes there was lots of snow.

Thanks for the report Kent. How much slush on Scofield and did it appear to still be getting a heavy crowd?

No slush on Scofield (we fished just off of the boat ramp at the Utah State Park that is on the extreme north end of Scofield). We drove the length of Scofield, after coming over from Electric Lake, and there were a few people fishing but not many. It was around 3:00 PM when we drove by and there were indications on the ice that there had a been a few more people there earlier in the day.

It was quite an adventure as tincanfish put it. My body still hurts from hike in and out of electric (man am I out of shape). Despite the slow fishing, it was a trip not soon to be forgotten. At least we weren't skunked, eh Kent.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome to the board Tony. Although we will be keeping an eye on you. If you can handle those fishing marathons of Kent's you're tougher than a lot of us. He seems bound and determined to have fun, no matter how much misery he has to endure in the process.[/#0000ff]

Who knows why there were few fish in that area this year. The last time I ice fished Electric Lake was on 2/15/04, and the fish were near the dam all day long. I plan on getting up there at least once from my Porta-Bote to fish and also get me a good supply of red shiners with my casting net. I am sure that I will have no problem locating them from a boat.
