Put the butter in a one quart microwave safe bowl and cook on high heat for 15 to 30 seconds or until melted. Stir in the flour until blended and smooth. Stir in milk, salt and pepper.
Cook on high for about 2 minutes. Stir and cook again for another 1 to 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in cheese. Reheat if necessary to melt cheese.
