Plenty of snow up Fairview canyon! Tons of snowmobilers and snowboarders. We arrived at Huntingon at about 9am and made the trek out to the lake. It was tough getting out to the lake. There was about 2 feet of snow on top of about 12 inches of slush and then around 18 inches or so of ice. It was a little hard to tell how much ice there was but all I know is that it took the whole hand auger to break through to the water. We even had to dig a little snow off the top to be able to get the auger deep enough. It was quite the outing. We started in 16ft of water with little luck. We then moved to around 10ft and started seeing quite a few on the finders. We ended up icing 16 tigers between the 2 of us from 9am to 4pm. We missed a bucket load more. Just couldn't hook them, but can't complain. It was good day on the ice and we caught some really colorful tigers. A lot of work to get out to the ice but well worth it!

[cool]Wow, nice report, Cdragon! I didn't think anyone fished Huntington in February, but I guess I thought wrong. I'm surprised that there was only 2 feet of snow up there and only 18 inches of ice. Glad you got into a few. I look forward to floating it in my tube this summer around Pioneer Day Weekend. Those tigers are beautiful, tasty, and put up a great fight for their size!

O4T,

I've got a terrilble obsession for ice fishing this year..... My father-in-law thinks we're crazy! I don't think many people would attempt to work as hard as we did to catch a few fish.

It was a little hard to tell exactly where the snow ended and where the slush started. There was also a frozen layer of slush underneath the snow. And the snow wasn't quite as deep on the lake as on land. There was more like 4-5 feet of snow that we had to walk through to get down to the lake. Love those Tigers..... they're AWESOME!!!

There were also two other groups of 3 each down by the dam fishing. We were about mid-lake.

Good times!

Hey Coldfooter,

The snow trucks had plowed a little pullout about mid-lake, so we parked there. They did have a bigger pullout down by the crapper where you can park 10 or so vehicles. Not much of a trail to speak of..... if there was one, the wind had drifted the snow over the top. Hardcore ice fishing for sure![crazy]

It was actually a beautiful day..... I even got a sunburn!

Corey, you are one tough fisherman to attack Huntington this time of year with a hand auger! I have been there before in about 15+ inches of slush, and that is a pleasure that I will pass on ever enjoying again.

Kent..... I'm not sure if I'm classified as a tough fisherman or just plain CRAZY!!![Wink] We definately got a workout! The bad thing is that I can't say that I wouldn't do it again.[unsure]

My wife thinks that I have a "problem"..... I just call it "determination"....... determination is a good thing right???

Cdragon,
nice report! I know that your father in law thinks that you are crazy becouse he is my father in law too. But, some people will never understand! That was a blast last saturday. To bad we did not hook a few more. Send me those picks if you get a chance so I can show BMurr some of those male Tigers.

We are on for fish tourny!

Need to find out what fish are doing there.

Have a good day! Mike.
