Last night on the news they showed that Utah lake is over a full 4 feet higher than last year at this time. It is less then 7 inches of being "FULL" and having to open the gates. Should be a good spawn year for everything in the lake as there is a lot of flooded areas from last year with brush, weeds and grasses.

[cool]Right you are, spyder! Wow, I knew the lake was higher right now than it was last year, but within 7 inches of being full? WOW!! I'm still thinking about floating it tomorrow, but not sure yet. Wanna go? I'm still not sure about sitting in my tube in the blustery 36 degree weather though. I think it would actually be warmer ice fishing Mantua one last time. If I go to UL, I'm going to the Lindon Harbor area. Wanna go? I'll be heading out of SL at around 12.

I still remember that fight you had with the big kittie that went under your tube and broke you off last fall at Lincoln.

Out4Trout...if you do decide to go to Mantua, look for me and my 9 yr old boy... we'll both be wearing black snow pants. If anyone that does go, has a radio...give Lavaman a page!!!! I'll set it to scan.

Good luck this weekend wherever you guys end up!

Lavaman as far as I know 99.99% of BTF'ers with radio's use channel 12.0

Channel 12 it is!!!
Thanks Coldfooter!

Would love to hit the lake tomorrow but just isn't going to happen this week for me. Have some new things to try with the tube that I've been waiting since Christmas. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer. My wife thought I was just plain crazy to even be thinking about it until I showed her the pics of Tubedude and Tubebabe the other day breaking ice.[Wink]

[cool]Lavaman, I'll be looking for you and I'll have my radios on ch 12. Unfortunitely, I have to work for a few hours in the a.m., so I won't be up till about 1:30 or so, but I'll be on the East side first trying for some gils. 36 degrees is just a little cold for my blood to be sitting in my tube freezing to death at UL. I'll wait til it's at least in the 40's to try that out... I'll be in black coveralls and a dark blue coat. BFT stickers on my jetsled. See ya there, and I hope the fishies are biting! Hope the bright moon out tonight doesn't turn them off during the day. We'll find out soon enough...

I'll give you a hollar Out4Trout! I should be there around 9:00 a.m., hope to see you!

[font "Comic Sans MS"][#ff4040]Post a report on how you guys do... wish I could go, but I will be working all weekend. Hey Geoff, any reports of eyes yet? Shouldn't be too far off I think.[/#ff4040][/font]

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Scot, I had a "confidential" report of some eyes being caught off the end of the north jetty at Provo Boat Harbor. Minnows and pieces of white bass meat. Also one chilly cat caught.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Looks like it's about time. However, the lower nighttime temps this week may have put a skim back on the pond. [/#0000ff]

[cool]Skot, I decided that 36 degrees for the HIGH temp today was a little chilly to drag out the tube. However, now that most of the ice is gone, I would think that the 'eyes should be just beginning to get hungry before the call of the wild happens next month or so. As for me, as far as tubing goes I'm going to wait until it's at least in the 40's outside to do that. My boots are a little tight and so the feet get too constricted when I try to put on wool socks, etc. which makes my feet too cold to enjoy it. Gotta make a switch to those neoprene booty things with better flippers, etc.

I'll let you know on how I do trying to get my revenge on Mantua. Only been there once this year and all I caught were four perch. Think I was fishing too close to the stupid boat ramp. It'll be the East side today...

No ski, on the lake the last few days. The wind (small white caps all day) has been good enough to keep her open. Caught a few whities this week at the new Saratoga Springs Boat Harbor.

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, the wind takes care of the ice on the main lake, but with the cold nights again, I wouldn't be surprised to see the harbors cap again.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good to hear about the whites at Saratoga Springs. I only fished it once early last year and that was before the water levels really came up. Were you fishing inside or outside. I had planned to try the walleyes around there this year. The area between the harbor and Pelican Point has some good structure.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
tubedude your reports are true. I've caught 2 walleyes so far with the minnows ,on the north jetty.
probably 100yds. from the handicap pier.
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Excellent. Any size? How healthy are they? Heard of some more skinny ones showing up early this year.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#ff4040]Hey Pat, that is nice to here that there are some walleyes showin up early. Either way I'm not a dunk bait kinda guy... I like to go after them with plastics! I will wait just a little bit longer before I go out and try it. And I have never done too good out at Provo. [/#ff4040][/font]
[signature]
[cool]Hey phison, nice report. Were there any size to the 'eyes that you caught, or were they little skinny 17 inchers?
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]I'm with you, Scot. I am not a purist, and I use bait all the time. But, I prefer to cast and retrieve, waiting for that walleye "THUMP". Somehow it is not the same chuckin' a minnow out and waiting for something to find it. However, there are times when it works better.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Bait fishing is "a jerk on one end of the line waiting for a jerk on the other end of the line".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Between the weather forecast, and other things to do, looks like a couple of weeks before I can get serious about chasin the wallies.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#ff4040]I don't know about that bait thing being better sometimes. Maybe for catfish, but I have always done better chucking plastics. Maybe it's because I really suck when I bait fish I don't know. Remember the thing about wally fishing, you can have the right lures all the time, but if you don't know what you're doing it is really pointless.[/#ff4040][/font]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Fishing is both art and science. There are some bait specialists that can put a whuppin' on the plastics flingers on some days. On other days, when the fish are active, and the guy with the rod knows what he is doing, the lure caster will definitely get the most action.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You are right. Even having the right lures does not guarantee catching fish. There is a lot of technique involved. That is something you learn over time. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have long believed that good fishermen can catch fish on the "wrong" lures, whereas poor fishermen can't catch fish on the "hot" lures. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sometimes it is hard to keep from being rude when somebody fishing the wrong stuff, on the wrong tackle, the wrong way turns to you and says "You sure are lucky." And, even when you try to show them how to do it, and give them the right lure, all they wanna do is keep fishing their stuff.[/#0000ff]
