I use the cajan red line by shakespear because I like the visibility. They say that the red color is the first one to not be visible under water. my question is if that is true, why do red lures like the aglia spinner, or bleeding baits, ect work so well. I have read how much more effective " bleeding baits " can be. I am so

[cool][#0000ff]They GOTCHA! I have never tried the red line, because it is based upon a "line", that fish can't see it. Like yourself, I asked myself the question..."Why do fish respond so well to red in lures?" I use a lot of red in my jigs and lures, and I have also proven to myself that red hooks can sometimes make a positive difference.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Maybe it has something to do with translucency. If the light goes through, it is less visible. Who knows.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As a former diver, I know that reds fade out to shades of grey or black in deeper water. But, fish see light and colors differently than humans, so we can't judge based upon what we see.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you like the line and it doesn't seem to decrease your catch, stick with it. Sometimes I think we try to overanalyze our fishing and forget the fun.[/#0000ff]

We fished with someone that was useing it and he couldn't get a bite CBR let him use a pole without that line and he was catching fish after that...

Hi fellow fishermen
I am new to the bft broad. I just wanted to give my 2cents about that line. I always take two poles with me ice fishing one with the red line the other without. I start out with the red line but always end up using the pole without it. The report for this year is one fish on the red line, and a good amount on the one with out. So i do believe i will be putting other line on that pole. Thanks for all of the up dates and reports you guys give.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard and thanks for the input. The best way to test any new fishing product is with a fair side by side test. If you do everything the same, and see better results one way instead of the other, the decision pretty much makes itself. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Of course, some masochists keep hitting themselves on the head, just because it feels so good when they quit.[/#0000ff]

I agree with the previous posts. I used two ice fishing poles this year as well. One with dark blue mono the other had Berkley Vanish. I too would always end up choosing the rod with the Berkley Vanish. Like size color really does seem to matter, but go with what works for you.

I've been using it for almost 3 years now and have hooked amost every kind of fish in utah on it. I love it. I did think about what has been siad before about red hooks, bait and all. I dont think it makes much differance. if you fish a lure like you know it will get fish most likely you will. as for line think back not many years ago you saw people fish with brite yellow line and they got fish. heck go back farther and they didn't use mono. I'm sure that they tested "some what" the cajan to make sure it worked and got fish.
I like it it is vary stong "7 1/2 striper on 4 lb test last spring good knots also. fish with it a bit longer and you will see most people dont give things long to try before they go back to what they like. "me also"

no problem. pick you up some size 14, 16, 18 bead headed prince nymphs, wd 40's or copper johns and we'll go put a hurt'in on some of them whitefish.

I'd love to go after some of them stripers, but I think i'm gonna run the new out board ( new to me, its actually an antique merc ) a little closer to home for a few trips. I learned that lesson the hard way last year.

Garbageman, (Clint)
I have been using Cajun Red for around three years. I have it on all of my spinning reels, including my ice reels. Tubedude recently saw me catch fish with it. Jedburton has seen me catch trout and catfish with it. I also slayed the walleye, whities and crappie at UL last year with it. Jed saw me catch dozens of stripers, and smallies with it. Petty can attest that I caught wipers with it. I have never had a fish catching issue with it. I find that it is extra strong, holds great knots and is abrasion resistant. I tried McCoy, P-Line, Firewire and another line that I forget, and had problems with them looping off my reel when ice fishing. The new Cajun Red ice line doesn't do it. Although I did have a huge Brown break my 4# CR (Cajun Red) at Lake X last week (after I tightened my drag) the second huge brown at the hole broke my hook, not my line. Jed witnessed that too. I hear that the Silver thread is awesome line, but I will stick with CR at $5.95 for a 1# spool. CR has also come out with a line for casting reels. I will be spooling up with that in a couple weeks...We all have our line preferences, and have confidence in what has been successful for us in the past. Perhaps those of us that have had negative fish catching experiences with CR, switched back to their "go to" lines too quick. And perhaps when I have had the occasional slow periods when fishing, it was because the CR was visible to the fish at that particular time of day. Who knows. What I do know is that it works for me the majority of the time. I have finally, after thirty years of fishing, have no reason to try any other line.

I have to agree with TubeDude here, people tend to way overanalyze their fishing. Nobody is going to convince me that there is a fish down there saying "now that there looks like one of them things my cousin BillyBob got caught in last year, and I'll be durned if we never did see 'im agin. You oughter just stay clear of that thang." For the most part, they don't sit there staring at a lure trying to decide if it is food. With still fishing (like ice fishing) they do tend to smell or taste the water often before biting, but they aren't studying a lure to decide if it really looks like a small fish or bug. If they think they can eat it, no matter what it is, they will try.
I have also heard people say things about red shiners being in strawberry, so they try to pattern after the shiner. Just remember that the earthworm doesn't occur naturally in any lake, yet it is probably the #1 all-time fish catcher and is still an absolute favorite staple at the berry.
Keep up the fishing, have fun, and don't analyze too much. It will drive you nuts! If fish are on the finder, but not on your hook, just throw something on until something works!
Enjoy!!
