Hey guys, posted this on the Nevada forum but even with 20 views, I got no answers. Maybe some of you that fish Nevada can help me out here....

Hey, question from a Utah neighbor. Do any of you guys fish that river running east/west to the west of Wendover? I've seen it on my way on I-80 from Wendover to Reno.... Looks like a nice long river, with lots of bends and bays but was wondering what kind of fish are in there, whether its a fishable resource and how/when/where to fish it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks guys. Feel free to send a PM if you'd like.

I can't remember how far west of Wendover I saw this because I haven't been that way for a while but when I did see it, I remember thinking... dang, that looks fishy. Has lots of wide bends and curves from what I could see and it just might be worth a trip or two to fish that place.... If any of you guys have fished it or know the name, and wouldn't mind shooting me a little info on the situation out there, I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys.

[cool][#0000ff]How FAR west of Wendover? Not familiar with the one you mention, but if you get over to the west side of Nevada, there is the Humboldt river, and Rye Patch Reservoir. Good fishing there, in years it doesn't dry up.[/#0000ff]

That may be the one Dude.... I am not sure how far west of Wendover but it seemed like it was about halfway between Wendover and Reno. It was about two years ago that I drove past it. In fact, I think it was the Humboldt river.... That name seems to ring a bell. It could just be the ringing in my right ear too?? Anyway, what kind of fish are in there Pat? Is it any good for catfish, bass, trout?

[cool][#0000ff]The Humboldt River is subject to great fluctuations and temperature extremes, because it is in a desert environment. However, I think the state record channel cat came out of there. Probably ran upstream from Rye Patch Reservoir during a high water period.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The lake is a great fishery, for many warm water species. Here is a blurb I got from a website. There is quite a bit of info on the Internet if you enter either Rye Patch or Humboldt in your browser.[/#0000ff]

Description - Located on the Humboldt River 26 miles north of Lovelock. Access is by paved road. Surface area of approximately 12,000 acres at full reservoir storage. Fishing season is year-round. Warm-water fishery with game species including white bass, walleye, white crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, brown bullhead, and channel catfish. Nevada State record walleye caught at Rye Patch.

[cool]Yep, that be the one. The Humbolt is the one that you see after Elko around the Carlin area (where that tunnel is that you drive through). I think that in that area there are rainbow and brown trout, but further down by Winnemucca/Rye Patch you probably get more of the warm water species. I grew up in Northern Nevada (closer to Reno) but never fished the Humbolt, but I've heard it is indeed decent fishing over by the Elko/Carlin area.

Rye Patch all but dried up about 10 years ago, could of been longer than that. I caught a lot of Large mouth out there, up to five pounds and broke off a couple toads. Also caught Walleye in the reservoir and in the river below, along with some white bass. That was back in 1986. I have no Idea what the fishing is like out there now!
