I was remembering on some of last years kitties we caught and one trip in particular i do remember more than others.We had 4 kitties around the 6-8lb range and we were doing an overnighter at lincoln.I had them on a stringer that night and come morning they were all gone!![pirate] I found out the hard way that kittie cats know how to get off the metal stringers!![shocked] I found out that the hard way.I also found out it has happened to several other people i have met fishing.My advice is to use rope stringers for cats.[

Did they use their wiskers to pry open the metal clips? Or were there misterious foot prints in the mud by the stringer? I've lost fish on stringers before, but I lost the stringers also. Them be some tricky cats you be a catchin down on the Lincoln. Hope ya have better luck this year.

A couple years ago we did an overnighter at Bird Island and they guy I was fishing with wanted to keep some kitties and he was using his wire stringer. When we checked in the morning many of cats had twisted the snaps and opened them. He was frustrated, because he had one of those more expensive metal stringers in his tackle box that the snaps just turn on a swivel.

[#0000ff]I don't know many SERIOUS cat tanglers that still use wire clip stringers. They are incredibly strong and if you get a couple of them on the same stringer they twist against each other and it's all over. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]TubeBabe and I last used wire stringers on a night trip to Willard Bay about 1979. As it got dark, the kitties came out to play. Our first three were all well over five pounds. When I went to add the fourth, the wires were all trashed. After that we strung them on yellow nylon rope. Biggest that night was 14 pounds and the average was over 6.[/#0000ff]

One of my buddies lost his boat (he had to swim/wade out to get it) one morning because he had a big Flathead on a stringer (rope), tied off to the back of his boat. Be careful with those whiskered rascals.
I've never had a problem cats on a stringer except for their constant meowing and hissing!!!

I triple dare you to put 2 or more 4lb cats on a wire stringer for a couple of hours.I know they will be gone! I forgot to mention my stringer was so bent out of shape i had to throw it away and use rope from my tent to string up the other kitties we caught.

It'll only take one trip to convince you of their power. I've seen it a couple of times now. Put a couple decent cats on, and before long they will twist up those wires in a hurry!

what you do is get and electric knife and a smaller cooler with ice , then you put those tastie filets in a plastic bag in the ice cooler and you are done . happy fishing

I'm with Beeman. No leaving kitties overnight. When I am fishing I usally kill them pretty soon after catching by burying in a cooler of ice.

If they are the right size for eating, they get bled and kept, all others get returned. More people should live by this, there is so many people at boat ramps that just throw away the day's catch. I guess I am getting carried away. The best advice is to put them on ice on soon as they are in in boat.
