Most of you photo editing programs can do it for you. A use Adobe PhotoshopCS...kinda pricey, but thier elements program is very affordable and works quite well. If you are using one of these programs, open your image, click the image tab at the top of the page, go to resize, click it, and then enter your new size. Generally 640x480 will work, but usually you can go 800x600 without trouble. Another thing to consider is the amount of compression you have with your picture. Usually a .jpg will get you in the right ballpark as far as size is concerned. If you are using .tiff, or RAW images in your camera/scanner, they will be way too large. Once again, both of these programs will compress the image into a smaller footprint. Hope this helps.

If you are using Windows XP, then it comes with a free (but very simple) program to create and edit pictures, called Microsoft Paint.
To run it, just click on your start menu, then click on Programs, then Accessories, then Paint. It will open up Paint with no picture. To edit one of your pictures, click File, then click Open.
Find your picture, then Click Open.
Once your picture is open in paint, click on Image(in the menu), then click on Stretch/skew. From there, in the horizontal and vertical text boxes, type in a number, which represents a percentage (like 50 to make your picture 50% smaller). Then click Ok.
CLick File, then SaveAs. Then choose a new file name and click Save. (Note: if you just choose Save, instead of SaveAs, then it will overwrite your original file. You probably want to keep both.)
Now, the new file will be a jpeg file that is WAY smaller in size then the original and you can upload it to BFT.

one hint with using paint. You have to stretch / skew both the horizontal and the vertical. Make sure you shrink both the same amount or you will end up with a really funny looking photo!
I have a really nice photo editing program, but when I just want to shrink something to post on the Internet I usually just get lazy and use Paint.
By the way, if anyone considers themself an amature photographer (or very amature as is the case with me) I found a cool website that was posted on KSL a couple of weeks ago. It is called utahphotography.net. It is just a message board, similar to this, to discuss photography geek stuff. They also have a nice little gallery where you can post / host your photos. I have put a few of my better photos on there, and it is all free. Check it out. I would love to see more people join that forum.

Hello Guys,
Another option is post them at the BFT photo Gallery and it will make 3 sizes of the image 1) Thumbnail or small preview 2) a bigger version that will fit in these boards 3) A full size version
You can then just select the picture you want and copy and paste it or at the bottom of each picture is the internet path where the picture is. You can use the path to put the picture anywhere (because its already on the web)
The gallery will also keep all your pictures under your username so they are easy to find later. You can even rotate or edit the photo.
Hope that helps, you can get to the gallery at:

I also posted a utility on the off topic board that will help with image resizing.

Hey Mike, do you allow hotlinking to those pictures? I am developing a fishing website, http://fishinginfo.atspace.com
I am currently using imageshack.us for the image hosting, but an alternative would always be nice.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,
Yes, that is fine, in fact the system provides the path to the image below it to make it easier to hot link.
