I've looked around at alot of the past polls and surveys, and alot of the same questions arrise, "who makes the best this" and "who's got the best that." Usually, the answers that arrise from these questions end with high-end brand names with unrealistic price tags. I know I look in my arsonal of tackle and mostly all you'll find is Penn and Abu Garcia, but there is always that little soldier hiding in the back that no one thinks of. the red headed step child of your rod and reels. You all know you've got one, and it's outlasted all your expensive equipment. It's the one you bought and wished it would break so you'd have an excuse to go buy that new one that just came out, but it seems indistructable.

I know for me, it's my Okuma's. I never gave those reels much credit, but they are a very underspoken reel, atleast to me. I have but two of them, and I bought them at the time because it was all I could afford. And I tell you what, i've never lubed them or cleaned them, but they are still going strong.

So, what's lurking in your fishing equipment?

[#ff4040]I've got an old shimano reel that I bought when I was a kid. That thing still works like a champ! I don't even remember how many times I have dumped it in the water, but it keeps churning and turning fishies for me. I think I cleaned and oiled it once. I want it to break, so I can get a new one, but I also don't want it to break. I have had it for too long and it has taken a ton of big fishies. Definite sentimental values to it, I would for sure cry if it did ever break.[/#ff4040]

I have quite a collection of Penns, Daiwas, Shimanos and others on the lower end scale. Most of them I relube often because of constant and frequent use. Others I have replaced inferior bearing with quality bearings and they are good to go for a longer time.

Some of my better stuff has come with poor quality bearings and frozen up at unopportune moment causing line breakage and therefore lost photo opps.

I still continue to use my Jiggmaster 500s, 9Ms, 501s,505 and 506HS. I just replaced the cradle style bearings with an NMB R-4 bearing. They are sealed and never need additional lube.
