[cool][#0000ff]TubeBabe and I met up with BFT member "road" at Lindon Harbor on Utah Lake Saturday morning. The south wind was blowing for awhile, but died down enough to let us get out to the area we wanted to fish...before picking up again. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We fished several kinds of lures, trying for walleyes or white bass, without any hits at all. So, we started soaking dead minnows, hoping for walleyes but desperate enough to settle for whatever wanted to bite. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff][#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The wind finally died down some and the sun came out to make the rest of our morning an enjoyable outing. Not much action, but TubeBabe and I managed to score a few catfish each, which was more than anyone else we saw, either from a boat or bank.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I caught the first channel cat...about 2 pounds. Then, TubeBabe got a 5.5 pounder. I followed with one about 3. She capped me with a big 26" kitty that weighed in at 8.2#. Just when it looked like I was going to have to put up with another "she whupped me" day, I got a good pickup and set the hook into something solid. It took a lot of line off the reel and headed for deeper water. Several minutes and multiple trips around and around in my tube I slipped the net under a 27" 8.7# channel cat. I took big fish honors. I did not catch the most fish. I tied with TubeBabe because she caught a nice white bass too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Poor road. He worked hard, but had only a couple of bites. One ran a lot of line off his reel but when he tried to set the hook, the fish was gone. Inexperienced fish. Didn't know how the game is played.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The water was still cool, at 49 degrees, after the big snow storm on Thursday. Maybe summer will get here someday. Tough fishing until then.[/#0000ff]

[black]Dang Tube, nice fish. How in the heck do you know what rod to grab. I pray you never get a bad leak out in the middle[cool][/black]
[signature]
Nice! Looks like a good time. Come on summer!
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Hey goddess lady, knowing which rod to grab has never been a problem. Oh, you meant something else?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]And, I try to avoid having to leak, while too far from shore. I guess you meant something else again?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I am sure you are referring to the "upright arsenal" in the pic, right? The rods I take out (five) on any given day are carefully selected from about 50 or 60 I have stacked in my garage. I usually have a range from light spinning to medium heavy baitcasting. Yes...I do take out a fly rod from time to time too. (Here are a couple of pics that include a partial stash of my rod collection)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I choose and use each rod according to the species I am after and the size of the lure (or bait) I am chucking. It is the same as fly fishing. You match your tackle to the size line and flies and the fish you are after.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have been tubing since about 1955, in one type craft or another. I HAVE developed pinhole leaks in several craft, while fishing, but have never had an air loss severe enough to keep me from making it safely (and dryly) ashore. The leaks are usually from accidental encounters with the spines on non-trout species. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The only time I ever heard of a tuber actually sinking in their craft was when some dimbulb rookie tried to cut bait on the surface of his tube cover and...well, you can guess the rest.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also, I always follow the advice of Dirty Harry: "A man should know his limitations." Float tubes are not made for tackling big waters. I never get far enough off shore that a physical or tube malfunction would create a severe problem. Most of the best fishing is usually within close proximity to the shore anyway. About the only time I am very far away from easy exit from the water is when I am making a sustained kick across open water to reach another fishing spot.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I would not expect an air loss to be a big concern to you. After all, a goddess should be able to walk on water if her tube went flat. Right?[/#0000ff]

[#ff4040]Holy shizz TD... That is one heck of a tackletorium you got there. You weren't kiddin around when you told me you had a bunch of stuff. I definitely need to come check it out one of these days.[/#ff4040]

[cool][#0000ff]My door is always open...but sometimes cluttered.[/#0000ff]

[purple]Nice!. You definitly got you [/purple][url "mailto
h#@$%"][purple]sh#@$%[/purple][purple] together. Being only fly fishing I am able to keep my fly tying stuff a little more compact, but as far as rods, around 35 of them all in tubes and 3 bags of reels takes a a lot of room (two fifty gallon dumbs) plus vests, back packs, Hydration packs, fanny packs, and chest packs (do a lot of rivers)[/purple]
[purple]I haven't tried to walk on water yet LOL (knock on wood). I have had my ol' SFC for going on 12 years and it has never leaked either. [/purple]
[purple]I guess your set up is really no different than mine, I do take 3 rods ready in rod holders and carry one. And I have that stinky ol laundry bag rolled up for the live well if I decide to keep any. Like the Boga grip, I have a digital scale, should have bought a boga when I had the chance.[/purple]
[#800080]Do you eat that catfish? I haven't had cat since I was a little girl.[/#800080]
[#800080]The ol' man and myself were talking yesterday bout the fact that we got to join you two one of these days for some cats or wipers.[/#800080]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]You betchur froggy bottom that we eat those cats. We don't always keep all we catch, but both TubeBabe and I (and a lot of other folks) agree that channel cats are about as toothsome as you can get. Better than trout and better than most other Utah species. I kinda give walleye the edge, but TubeBabe hold out for channel cats.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We had some oven baked "lemon sesame kitty" last night. Deelishiwus. I just finished up smoking a batch yesterday afternoon too. (see pic) Served up with some cheese, crackers and an appropriate "libation", that stuff will put lead on your chest and hair on your pencil...or something like that.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have posted several threads in the past about preparing cats. Here are some links from the past.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Would love to arrange personal introductions to some wipers or kitties...both on the end of your rods and on the table. I know Alan ain't big on eating fish, but I think my smoked kitty jerky might surprise him, especially if he likes spicy.[/#0000ff]

He married me didn't he?!

[cool][#0000ff]I'm sure he had plenty of good reason for hitchin' up with ya. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]But, I ain't qualified to comment.[/#0000ff]

[#505000]Hey Skot, I've been there a time or three and those pictures are deceiving. You're only seeing the south side of the room. The north side has just as much stuff. Tubedude can put Cabela's to shgame when it comes to the amount of tackle in stock!! Best part is all of Pat's stuff works. [][/#505000]

[cool][#0000ff]Well, the last I heard you were rapidly approaching divorce court for trying to keep up with me.[/#0000ff]

]Many years and lots of tackle ago, when he moved from Denver to Tucson, the mover wanted to know if he owned a tackle shop!!

Ha, I would had thought that too! Boy you guys top me! Good to know you love fishing, wish I could get my wife that deep like ya![

Hey guys , Just thought I would say hello! I am glad to see the pics and know that you guys are out and about doing the catfish roundup. I miss fishing for kitties! I am having to adapt to life up here in the great northwest but am looking forward to lots of good fishing ( no more adventures with train tracks of course) Anyone that makes it up this way should come say hello! I finally got a boat..not a great one but it'll do ( 300 bucks!) . Keep in touch
Frankie

Not sure what part of Montana you live in but I go to Hebgen and Quake lake every year.

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Frank, thanks for dropping in. We were wondering what happened to you, hoping that you weren't challenging any more trains. Then you pop up in Montana. Don't blame you. That Flathead Lake area is beautiful. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I just got a small used boat too. A 15 foot flatbottom with a fairly new 40 horse Merc and two electric trolling motors. I haven't taken any full length shots of it yet. Still got a couple of things to do before I put it on the water. But, here is a pic of the official name...the Tube Ferry. It will serve to take our tubes to remote tubing spots, as well as serving to troll or fish bigger waters.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck to you as moderator of the Montana board. Come on back and drop in whenever you get a hankerin' to talk tubin'.[/#0000ff]
