[cool][font "Arial"][size 2]We fished at the Bonita reefs, and 9 ½ miles out, over live bottom Monday with Steve & Barbara Alfoldy. Using live shrimp, we caught and released 40 keeper-sized mangrove snapper, keeper sheepshead to 15 inches, and grouper shorts. We lost the biggest sheepshead, estimated at 19 inches. Winter generally brings the large sheepshead to the area, so we’ll be looking for some upwards of 8-10 pounds. Cliff & Jan fished Tuesday with us, in 34 feet off Wiggins Pass with live shrimp. We caught keeper mangrove snapper, porkfish, triggerfish, and grunts, as well as lots of catch-and-release red & gag grouper. Wednesday warmed up nicely, and fishing nine miles off Bonita, over live bottom, was fruitful for Jerry Fox and friends Bill, Al and Earl. We caught three nice hogfish to 18 inches, eighteen keeper mangrove snapper, keeper triggerfish and porkfish—No keeper groupers, but lots of shorts again in the 18-19 inch range. The bite was pretty slow Saturday at the Bonita reefs with the Carl Grey party. We got sheepshead to 15 inches—We were fishing in 3 foot seas, with a water temperature of 54.6, and air temperature of 44. Sunday, Alan & Cynthia Gitken fished with us ten miles off Bonita Beach, in warmer weather with better action. We caught two limits of mangrove snapper to 16 inches, and released gag shorts to 20 inches, using live shrimp.
