Hello.
Has anyone had any action with the smallmouth at Jordanelle yet? If not, when does the fishing for smallies usually turn on at Jordanelle?
Thanks!

Not Jordanelle but I was up at Deer Creek with my brother this morning and 2 of our 10 fish were smallmouth. My brother's took a 3" grub and the one I caught slammed a jerk bait. First smallies of the year for both of us.

Thanks Jman! How big were they?
Anyone have any luck at Jordanelle yet?

Not big. Zach's was about 12" and mine was about 14". But still, they put up a nice fight.

Hey, Senkonate. We fished for smallies last Saturday and caught none. Did catch one nice Rainbow on a Rat-L-Trap, released her and grinned at each other..thought we were on to something. Didn't get another bite. Didn't matter much as we had good laughs and plotted future strategies. Other BFT posts have mentioned the first week in June as the Smallie spawn season at the 'Nelle and I've read where the bite turns on when the water temp hits 59 to 60 degrees. If my buddy is up to it we are planning to go after work this Friday p.m., see if we can stir up some red-eyes. If Friday doesn't work out, we'll brave the hordes on Saturday a.m. early. I'll post the results even if they aren't much. Here's hoping you stretch your line on a good bronzeback real soon.
Later, BignSmallie

Hey bro,
Middle of May is when they really start to activate. You can catch them now but it's a lot harder. Dropshotting and deep water techniques are usually the goto right now. Was up at Deer Creek last week and caught some smallies on jerkbaits. Temp was 50 degrees on the north end.

Where were you all fishing at Deer Creek? Any ideas on shore fishing for smallies and LMB at Deer Creek?

Try the east end along the main highway just west of the midway turnoff. There is a long rocky shoreline for several hundred yards that can produce some nice smallmouth and largemouth bass.
You can do well casting parallel to shore early in the mornings in May. Right now the evening might be better cause the water will be a bit warmer.

Thanks Cat Man, I will try that. Deer Creek is so close to my house, I would really like to learn to fish it well and adopt it as my "home lake." Any other tips you might have would be VERY appreciated--that goes for anyone!

Smoke sparkle 4 inch senkos rigged wacky style have worked very well for me from the 'island' for largies and smallies. That was when it was a 'peninsula' though and you could walk out onto it. To get there now you need a boat or tube. The senkos should do really well along that rocky shore too though.
For the dink smallmouth (which can be fun cause you can catch a lot of them) just toss out a 1/3 of a nightcrawler a few feet below a bobber, a few feet from shore.
Experiment with how far or close to shore you need to cast to get them.

I was up there last Saturday and boated two smallies one was 13" and the other was 17" I caught some browns 17 to 22" and rainbows from 15 to 22" all was by using the MOJO drop shots and the rock hopper....
Then my trolling motor broke, But it is fixed now and I'm heading to powell.....

Fish the Northwest Corner. Slow presentations ... Greens & Browns will work. Dropshotting from shore and senkos. Fish all structures in the water including bigger boulders.

Thanks as usual for all the great help guys!!!!
Clif- I checked out your utbass.com site, and didn't see any Jordanelle tourneys this year. Was I looking in the wrong place? Say it isn't so! [unsure]

We need more tourney's in Utah me thinks!

Yeah, the regs make this so. No weigh-ins. I am thinking about doing a couple of draw / paper tourneys up there.

Could they be on a Wed or Fri evening this summer at X? [
