Well as the year is young we will call this report Chapter 1 as I am sure I will have a fair amount more as the year progress's!!
Well we hit the lake from Friday through Sunday and needless to say we HAMMERED the Kokanee in a big way. It was nice to see how healthy the kokes looked for this time of year, and how full of fight they were for this early in the season. I was grateful to have the Owner of Pro-Cure bait scent's with me, out of Oregon and he had a ball chasing the Legendary Gorge Kokes.
Hot Bait's were the pink/silver precious metal Sling blade dodger, with a pink silver Humdinger ( Troll these a little faster 1.7-2.2 mph) and the new Pee- Wee Squid's in Pink and pink/purple. We also did some proto typing for a new company and had some success with their stuff as well. All fish are holding from surface down to 32 feet but we found the highest success from 15 - 32 feet. Average speed was 1.7-1.8 mph and we had an unbelievable 6 triple hook-up's over the weekend. Not a lack of fish that's for sure.
Hot scent's were the Pro-cure Kokanee special Super gel, Carp spit Super Gel, and the Sweet Corn Super Gel, all these scent's did well and I hope the the Year will continue as it has started thus far for me!!!!

[black]Wow Jared you can't beat 6 triple hook-ups. Did you really mean to type, "Carp spit Super Gel"?[/black]

Yes I can Spell kent, and it is called "Carp- Spit Super gel, it has all the active ingredient's that the Kokanee Special has with ground up night crawler's as about the only extra that comes in Carp Spit. It is the hottest Kokanee scent on the Market in California at this time and I can vouch for it due to our success this last weekend.
Stupid Name I agree, For a kokanee scent but it does work.

Thanks for the report Jared, sounds like a good start to another awesome kokanee year. I bought 5 of the many Pro-Cure scents, one of them was sweet corn gel, I hoping to get out soon and give it a try. Did you have a chance to try any of the trophy trout scents on any lakers?

Nice going Jared. I am surprised to hear that the Kokes are hitting this early in the spring. I thought that it really didn't heat up until mid may or so.
By the way, where do you get the super gels that you mentioned. I am interested in finding the scents you suggested. Also, I hope to be up at the Gorge from May 22 - 26. If you are there at that time maybe we can hook up. I am going to try some of those squids that you gave me.

Guess I'm going to have to break down and go get a shasta tackle system. I saw Gary Marales at the ISE, was very interested in all the info that he shared. When, typically is the best time of the year for Kokanee at the Gorge?

What part of the lake were you fishing? We fished out of Buckboard Friday and Saturday and hammered the rainbows close to shore. We looked for Lakers in deeper water, but didn't mark any or any Kokanee. Are they close to shore also this time of year?

Well let me know by way of P.M. and I will help you with all you need to be successful by way of what Tackle to buy and how to rig it. I use certain scent's and I Have my "Go" to bait's that I can share with you to get you started and keep you in the fish.
I will be giving a seminar @ Sportsmans Warehouse in Riverdale a week from Wednesday and I will be going over alot of these same thing's.
In answer to the other following post I was fishing in and around the Lower Pipeline area and staying in the channel as much as running the cliff's, you just have to cover a fair amount of water in order to find them and once you do WOWWOWWOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me know if I can be of any help to any of you
Happy Fishing

Sounded like a good trip out. I really want to get on the kokanee this year. I am heading to Moon Lake over Memorial Weekend and hope to get out and catch some salmon. They are alot smaller in there than at the Gorge, but still fun to catch. Any tips on catching them, seeing you are the koke man?

if you want to learn how to catch as many kokes as possible go to the seminar at riverdale sportsmans. the shasta guys know their stuff!
