I hear that they have been closing some of the dirt roads in the Boulder mountains because they are causing too much siltation in the lakes.

Anyone know what road are open?

I am looking for a place to backpack into, between 2 - 6 miles in. Any suggestions?

the only roads that have been getting "closed" are illegal roads and ATV trails. It's about time the FishDix National Forest starts taking care of their out-of-control ATV use on the Boulder!

They closed a couple of minor roads on boulder top. The road closures don't really affect getting around. They just require a little bit of a hike to get to a couple of lakes. Wouldn't worry about the closures in planning your hike.

PBH,

They did close a couple of roads up on boulder top due to the research about degrading water quality in a couple of the lakes like crater. I read the report about 2 years ago. Last year they had plowed up a road (not just ATV trail) and closed the road that heads to the west of crater lake. If I remember, they had also posted some informamation as to why they closed the road as well. I'm sure you know more about this than I do and I agree with the illegal ATV use. I've seen many times over.

As a side note, I also saw in the Tribune about your Dad being honored for his work at a banquette. I too appreciate the work he's done over the years.
