And here's a good one on Wayne Gustuvson the head biologist for Lake Powell:

And, here is some of the ideas being proposed for the 2007 regulation changes, which I'm sure some on this board will find very interesting including the proposed removal of the size limit of walleye's etc. Here it is:

Ideas for fishing regulations
Utah's 2007 fishing regulations won't be decided until this fall, but Division of Wildlife Resources biologists already have some ideas they want to with share with the public.
Among the changes DWR biologists are considering for 2007 are:
• Raising the trout limit at Scofield Reservoir to eight fish.
• Allowing anglers to use a second fishing pole at every fishing water in the state.
• Removing the size restriction on walleye at waters across the state.
A complete list of the changes is available at www.wildlife.utah.gov

[#505000]Not quiet sure how I feel about the potential limit increase at Scofield......[/#505000]

[#505000]On the other had 2 poles state wide sounds freaking awesome!!! It always hurts to go from Utah Lake or Yuba to Strawberry or Scofield and be limted to 1. [/#505000]

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks Geoff. Not all of us are lucky enough to get the Deserted News. Good info.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I am especially intrigued by the pending change in the walleye size regulations. I have been hammering on that ever since I got back to Utah. The walleyes do not need that "help" and it only creates more large predators to further decimate the forage base. I do not know any other states that have similar regulations.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Many walleye chasers voluntarily release larger fish anyway, especially if there are plenty of small fish available. Small ones are usually better eating. But, if fishing is tough and you catch a couple of large ones, and no small ones, it is nice to be able to keep them both.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The increased trout limit at Scofield is likely to make the cooler crowd happy.[/#0000ff]

[cool]I agree with your agreement on the walleye issue. I think I agree with the Scofield thing, because it will take a lot of pressure off of Strawberry from the cooler crowd. However, they are going to have to up their stocking of that lake if they are going to double the limits in my opinion, otherwise, that lake will suffer quite a bit.

Bring it on! Often, I would love to have one rod dangling off the side of the boat while I actively cast the other one. Also, it would be great to try different things on each rod to find out what is working.

Amen Brotha. I'm all for the 2 pole permit statewide. The bag limit is the same so it shouldn't hurt anything anywhere.

Also, lifting the walleye restriction is a good idea too.

But, that 8 fish limit at Scofield I just cannot get over. It already does not have a slot limit, so the cooler crowd already go there instead of Strawberry most of the time.

It will seriously drain the fish pool if they have to stock it for 8 fish limit cooler stuffing on every trip party fishing folks.

I'm with you on the two pole rule kent. Now if they would just remove the fee for the second pole. I hate paying twice for the same fishing. Meaning: I'm cheap and don't want topay for a second pole permit it it isn't going to change my bag limit. And you know how many fish I keep Kent.

Raising the limit at Scoefield is a excellent idea. The lake is currently over stocked with fish. I will give ya all a report when I get back from there. Will be doing a job up there next week. Man its ging to be hard work!

I agree with the two pole permit change. Would be nice to fish with different bait at the same time until you find what is working that day. Been ice fishing alone several times this year and would have been nice try more options at the same time. The eight fish limit at Scofield is hard to like though. I don't think they need less fish just more water in the lake. Drought and the dam problems aren't the DWR's fault but seems like a short sided fix. Just my 2 cents.

I'm all for allowing 2 poles across the state. Really no reason not to. The limit is the limit, regardless of how many poles you use to catch them.
