Just got back from Pelican about an hour ago...We (My brother and I) left yesterday (Sunday) afternoon after church and arrived at Pelican Lake around 6:00 p.m. The wind was blowing, but we decided to go out and check out the conditions anyway. We caught 9 LM Bass in about 1.5 hours! 3 of which were over 14 inches! Looking forward to an excellent day of fishing the next day (today), we went back and spent the night in the Best Western in Roosevelt. We woke up to howling wind so bad that we didn't even launch my boat for about an hour after arriving at the lake this morning. We finally figured what the heck and went out in the hurricane. We caught 11 more fish before the wind blew us off the lake and we got tired of moving and anchoring - moving and anchoring...
Anyway, the fishing is very fast right now at that lake, we go around the same time each year and the water is WAY up this year. We would just anchor ABOVE the reeds right in them and pitch around us with Senkos and Buzzbaits. Very aggressive and fun fish. I wish the wind wouldn't have been blowing. We figured those 20 fish cost us about 1 Benjamin each, or $10 per fish! Worth every penny. Kent, I'm out of my slump!
Attached are a couple of pics of the average sized bass. 12 to 13 inches, with a few going over 14 inches and a few going under 12 inches also.
Pelican is really fun right now! I highly recommend it!

Any particular color and size for the Senco's, same for buzz baits.

There must be some LMB that weigh a couple 3-4 lbs in Pelican, how would one hunt them down?

Hey FW,
Don't know if it had anything to do with it or not, but we caught the bigger fish in the evening. I used a black clacker/buzz bait and my brother used the chartruese. I don't think that made a difference either. When I felt like the buzzbait wasn't working, I threw in my personal favorite Senko, the Purple Laminate. (I've used it 2 years in a row there now and it just works). The biggest fish I caught was on a purple senko. I tried pink and green with no luck. I agree, there are some bigger bass in there...just a lot more smaller ones!
Good luck,
Randy

What is the minimum lbs test you can use at Pelican? How do you fish Senco's (drop shot, texas?) and what size hook and Senco do you use?

Thanks again. Just getting started in bass fishing.....
