Sorry folks but I have to protest about this new advertising link policy.
I logged on to the board tonight to show my wife our posting and your esteemed input, only to find the word [green]FISHING[/green] in [#ff4040]MY[/#ff4040] post highlighted and underscored. Upon clicking on this text we were directed to some advertisement.
I am not in the least happy with this new and sudden change.
The idea of someone being able to advertise any product, affiliation, club or ideal by means of a link without consent to any of the words I have typed, submitted and am responsible for is to say the least, disturbing to me .
If BFT is that desperate for cash, I would be more than happy to contribute money to thid great and informative site, as are many other members to be sure.
This new feature on BFT will surely keep me away from posting here.
Not a good addition at all!

[#ff4040]It's not that bad. If you just ignore them and just not click them, or scroll over them than they aren't a real problem. I just don't scroll over them.[cool][/#ff4040]

this new advertising is just being tested at this point. thank you very much for your feedback. bft is testing this new advertising to try and give there advertisers more value for there dollar. hopefully we can get used to the links and move on. of course, maybe it will only be temporary. we'll see.

Perosnally I hate ALL advertising and always purposely ignore it, unless it is truly something I AM interested in which is so rare it's not even funny.
BUT...I am VERY pleased with this new form of advertising. It is SO non-invasive to my privacy and it is so subtle. I have a choice to click or not. I am not stuck with some irritating big flashing pop-up or some banner taking up even more space.
VERY GOOD JOB!!! I wish ALL the companies out there would learn this new trick and get rid of all their banners!

I can understand unhappiness over this because I find it distracting but overall its just a test.

I've seen this exact same thing on other websites. Personally, I like the idea. Get rid of the side banners and we can see larger pics in full. Yes, it can be annoying to suddenly have a balloon pop up on your screen while you're pointing at certain words (especially if the arrow helps you keep your place while reading) but overall, I think it'll be a much nicer site.
The advertisements that result in these pop-up windows aren't just any website, they are those that already pay to have banners on the site. If you are good at ignoring the banners, then all you need to do is learn to ignore the underlined words.

I totally agree with the poor tact advertising in your post. However, as a whole, i'm yet to make a determination as to how much I like or dislike this tactic.
Ads can be annoying at times, however, the sponsers on this site are the guys that make things happen for us BFT'ers. Free joining, no monthly or annual dues, and pretty frequently I find ads that I find interesting and check it out. I've found some pretty neat products clicking on these ads. And make no mistake, that's exactly what these ads are for, to catch our eye and get us to spend our money. No one here is nieve, we all know that.
I feel the issue here is more so invading your personal post. That wasn't very tasteful at all. However, like mentioned previously, this is just a test.
We also understand there are going to be mixed emotions no matter if we implement this new ad technique or make things the way they were. There's always an equal share of individuals that like and dislike the changes. There's always the old schoolers that have been on the site a while, like me, that majority would like to keep things the way they are. You know, the old "if it ain't broke don't fix it" ideal. And then you've got the guys that like to change things up a bit. Niether way is wrong or right, that's why this is a test. BFT is just trying to find the bugs so they can work them out in the future.
Don't be discouraged, so far i'm not particularly excited about this new technique either, however, i'm willing to give it a try and see what needs to be fixed about it and what is OK. It might turn out to be a good thing once all the irritable aspects are addressed. Keep up the good input though, that's how we know what's acceptable and what's not. [cool]
