Full Version: Problem with Trolling motor - need help

Boat has a Motor Guide trolling motor on the bow, foot-pedal operated. It is aprox 10 years old.
When it works right, you press the pedal one way and the motor turns, push the pedal the other way and the motor turns the other way. This has stopped working.
The motor will move, but it feels like it is "skipping". Hard to explain.... now when you press the pedal all the way forward, instead of the motor making a 90-degree turn (for example) it will only make a 50 or 45-degree turn.

Any ideas on what may be the problem? How to fix it?
Anyone willing to take a look at it?
Any suggestions at all?

THANKS!

10 years old, you say? Its past its prime. Look for a new MinnKota. Electrics wear out quickly. 10 years, and you've got your money's worth.

I had the same problem with the boat I just bought not to long ago. Try to screw the head of the trolling motor into the shaft. I found on my older model that after using it for a couple trips it seems to slip like you Sadi. Just grab the motor and try to screw it back into the shaft. It worked so far for me.
