Today was my first day of summer vacation, that'll last for over a year [cool], so I wanted to get out for some bass. All my favorite waters for largies are in Tooele County, so a west I headed.
Stoped at I-80 pond for a few hours. First time I've tried it. Water was 76* at launch, 77* when I got out. Lots of gills, not a lot of bass. One largemouth from 7am to 9am. Not very big, either. Like 8". The gills were popping, and they sure did like little black flies off of the fly rod. I got 25 or 30, all less than 7" or so. So, further west!
Got out by my grandpa's house, and found out I left the minnow trap at home. DOH! Stupid, bone headed move. Oh well. Went to some nice warm springs I know very well, and started pitching plastic. Finally I got a biggun to inhale a purple worm. 21 1/4" long, making the largest fish I've ever gotten from my pontoon boat. Very nice. I didn't want to ruin that female, so I released her unharmed. Caught a few more smaller fish, up to about 16", then had to head back home.
Sure was a pleasant day. I think I finally got the hang of my pontoon boat, too. At least for bass. I sure did good from it today. I woulda had pictures, too, but the juice on my fish finder was dead, so I had to steal my digital's batteries. Gotta remember to keep that finder charged I guess.
