well the LCD on my fishfinder has just gotten where i can't read it anymore. In the market for a new one, i guess. i have seen some for $2300 ahem, ..that's a LITTLE outta my price range, but was nice to look at! lol

Some folks have told me i can get by with a $150 unit...others $300-$400 is a "good buy", yet others have said to an all round good deal, i should look at spendin $600-$800

I really can't afford a $600 unit...a $150 unit would make me happy, but ...blah, blah, blah....needs some input my fellow BFT folks!

My new boat came with a Lowance x45 which retails for $150.00. Having had other finders I'm not impressed with this unit. It tells me I'm in four feet of water when it's the top of the weeds that are 4ft. I'll be replaceing it by next season with a color read out. But I'll expect to spend around around $500.00. You should get the best you can afford, but the $250.00-$500.00 range should get you a unit that you'll be happy with. The old saying you get what you pay for.

it all dependes on what you want out of the fishfinder on how much your going to spend.i am a large fan of hummingbird,they always treated me very well.and i am not easy with my electronics,like leaving them out during winter..but like gregg said,in the $200 dollar range you should find what your looking for.in this range will also give options for accecories if you want in the future.

Like TomC said, you get alot of bang for your buck with hummingbird. However, if you want state of the art, Go with Lowrance or Garmin.

I've got a Lowrance X67C and I love it. It's very easy to read and opperate, it's color, and it's under 500 bucks,














Infact, the MSRP on them now is only 249.00 That my friend is a steal considering you're getting a color sonar with great features. This fish finder will even show you the thermocline. [cool]

Never used one, Never will. But i saw a thread about a pocket sized one. There was also one at a store here that was $89.95. If your interested I can get the make and model for you next time I go there for supplies.

I've had a hummingbird with 3-d and was very pleased with it. I do like the unit Tarpon4me shows as it will easily replace what I have. Too many finders, Too little time.[]

The thing is when I bought mine they were still almost 500 bucks because of the color thing. LOL, now you can get one for 250. That's pretty darn good.

I've never use the 3-D fish finders before. Doesn't that 3-D kinda screw you up when you first start using it? LOL Does it really give a real-time 3-D image of the structure?

The 3-d didn't have the detail that the newer ones have. But it was easy to use.

I just purchased a Humminbird 383C for $355. Its a FishFinder AND GPS all in one unit. I also have a Pirana Max 20 on my Kayak and I m very happy with both units. The Max 20 cost $99 .
Got these on eBay from dealers. No tax and shipping was cheap.
Both were new in the factory sealed box......
I m not promoting eBay but you should go look....

i ended up goin with the lowrance x125. i almost pulled the trigger on the color unit (67c) but i got a more powerful sonar output (2400 watts vs 800) and much better viewfinder resolution (480x480 ) goin with a proven black and white unit. The LCD is 2 inches larger as well.

I love the thing...my only regret is possibly not getting the x135 for $100 more..which would have boosted the sonar up to 4800 watts.... not sure if that would have have made much of a difference tho considering my primary fishin areas.

EDIT: i have bought items in the past from E-bay and was satisfied with the items i purchased and the price i paid. However, with this particular type of purchase i feel much more comfortable buyin it locally from a local merchant, where i can touch it and look at it and experiment with usin it. I bought it from a local Bass Pro shop, they have a good return policy as well, so i felt confident puttin my $$ in their hands.
