i was thinking i may wanna get up high in the hills to escape this vegas heat and was also thinking i may want to try to catch some trout. i have almost abandoned trout fishing as of late and i thought it would be nice to give it a shot again. anyway, i haven't been up to navajo lake for about 17 years when i was a kid in cedar city. we used to be up there all summer and i remember it being a very quiet and pretty place. anybody been up that way latelya nd have any reports? i'd like to go either this saturday or next weekend.......

That is a beautiful lake! Where exactly is it located? You sure do get around a lot! What exactly do you do for a living that lets you see so much of this beautiful state?
Jeff, do you mind if I use the picture on my website?
Thanks,
Kevin

Navajo Lake is located along Highway 14, about 25 miles (give or take) east of Cedar City in the Dixie National Forest. It's quite the beautiful drive up Highway 14 from Cedar all the way to Highway 89.
I would have taken the 148 before Navajo Lake (to Cedar Breaks National Monument), but signs said that road was closed. Next time.
According to reports, it's already been stocked this year with catchable rainbows. For at least the last two years (I just checked the last couple of records) it's been stocked with brookies and splake.
I have gotten around a bit this year--I'm an outdoors writer and I'm currently working on a book about the 50 best places to camp in Utah. The book focuses more on tent camping rather than RVs, so I tend to find more out-of-the-way campsites. I'm only about 20 sites in so far, but I have been to some AMAZING places and some really remote sites.
Kevin- I will send you a higher-res photo for the site, you can resize as needed. I forgot I had taken that, or I would have sent it with the other couple of photos I sent you.

He's sure. He took that picture himself. He sent me the full-sized version. He has been taking lots of pictures of different lakes around Utah lately.
Plus, you must be mistaken. I did a google search and found several pictures but none of them like that one.

no. not mistaken. just a case of nearly identical twins. look at this.

Feel free to doubt, man! lol. I'm probably wrong just as often as I am right. [

Looks like it is a popular vantage point, isn't it? lol

I'm positive it was eight days ago--don't sweat the confusion. It was kinda funny to see a photo so similar.
I pulled off the at a turnout on the highway with an information sign to take that picture--which probably explains the similarity in photos. It's a natural place to snap a shot.
I only wish my photos looked like the ones you referenced. Oh that I had the dough to drop on a decent camera, some nice lenses, and a polarized filter. Some day!
Reservoir was ice and snow-free as of the Wednesday May 31st at 4:04pm when that photo was taken.

perhaps i'll follow the trend and head on up to the turnout and take my own ohoto from that spot. it's a very nice pic. all 3 are. hey lurechucker, did you see anyone fishing while you were up there? i really wanna get out there on my tube and get out of this heat.....

[#ff4040]All three have subtle differences yet they were all taken, pretty much, from the same vantage point.[/#ff4040]

I did not see a soul...though to be honest I wasn't looking real hard. If you do go, make sure to bring a camera!

not seeing a soul is half the plan.. but it could be a bad sign too. if the fishing was good SOMEONE would be there.....

Good news about Navajo: Water.
For two winters, we have had good water at Navajo. Navajo is a lake that typically has issues overwintering rainbow trout. The brook trout always seem to make it through the winter, but the rainbows typically don't. But, for two winters in a row now, the rainbows have made it through (thanks to good winters). This means very good fishing for rainbows up to about 17". By the end of the summer, you could be seing a few rainbows up to 19".
Of course, the brook trout will be in good shape as well, and I have heard of a few splake being taken as well.
This should be a banner year for Navajo Lake.

Hey lurechucker, actually I prefer yours to the others. I think it looks better than the other ones. Maybe it's just my untrained eyes...

hey pbh thanx for the info. i think i'll be up there next weekend, the 17th or 18th. i'll be in my tube. any info on what to use. i have some small meps or panther martins as well as a few rapalas but for the most part i dont have much trout oriented tackle left in my arsenal and i don't bait fish, too boring plus i like to release what i catch soo i dont wanna deep hook 'em. i'd like to catch a few of those pretty little brookies.....
