Heading out with my dad and his boat to Jordanelle early tomorrow morning. Want to catch bass, but wouldn't mind trolling for some slimers as well. What are they (smallies) taking right now? If plastics, which plastics? If, spinnerbaits, what pattern? Trout? Should I just troll rapalas? Somebody, anybody, help me out! I am very excited and the only way to convince my dad to keep taking me out and to make sure he catches something. (He has never caught a smallie in his 65 years of fishing), it would be a nice father's day present if I could help him get one. Thanks!

[cool][#0000ff]The good news is that the smallies are moving into shallower water now. TubeBabe and I got several between 14" and 18" yesterday just casting small tube jigs along gravel bars in water from 5' to 10' deep. Colors are not too important but you will usually do better with browns and greens.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Senkos and similar are big favorites with smallie chasers on Lake X. Any plastic you can cast well and fish without weight will catch fish. 4" and 5" sizes are preferred. Actually you can use almost any tube or grub and get some action when the fish are active. When they are not, even the pros can smell like skunk.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you are rich, and want to throw some expensive (expendible) lures, fish around the shoreline brush and stickups. Rapalas or jerkbaits will usually get some attention.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Trout are all over the lake, but sometimes they are closer to the surface and easier to catch. If you can hit the water early, you can troll spinners, rapalas or spoons in a variety of colors. Brass and orange are good early but when it gets bright, go deeper and use darker colors. Sometimes silver works better than gold. You often have to keep changing lures and depths until you get it right.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck.[/#0000ff]

[cool]Hey Pat, any idea when they open the gates either to the rock cliff side or the hailstone marina? Fsh4fun05 and I are heading up that way on Sunday.

[cool][#0000ff]My experience recently has been that they do not lock the gates, but there is nobody manning (personing) them until about 7 AM. I have a yearly pass so I just breeze through about daybreak and display my pass. If you do not have an annual pass you will have to pay on the way out...or get a ticket if someone checks you while you are fishing and you haven't paid.[/#0000ff]

Thanks TD, I knew I could count on you for some good info.

[cool][#0000ff]Good to know. I always have the pass so I have never had to find out the hard way.[/#0000ff]
